GUEST DOODLEWASH: Getting Ready For Winter

Here’s another Sunday doodlewash from Philippe (@Phinomet). He was very happy with this one because it’s in a much looser, more abstracted style that he’s been trying to master. It was also one of the larger pieces he’s done and was just a touch larger than our scanner (prompting me to add another item to my Christmas wish list).

The weather is starting to get colder here now, and I’m not sure that we’re ready for it. I’m confident our dog, Phineas, isn’t ready as he just looks up at us each time we take him outside like it’s our fault it’s freezing. It’s that “can’t you fix this, you jerk?” look that he often gets when things aren’t going exactly how he thinks they should.

Unfortunately we can’t, and it’s almost that time of year when you stay inside with a fire burning and a mug of hot tea. Phineas doesn’t drink tea, but he does enjoy laying by the fireplace. Soon we’ll all be cuddled up and trying to keep warm, but right now we’re just getting ready for winter.

  1. It’s beautiful, Philippe…perfect colors for the season and I do love the loose strokes, too! Poor Phineas…on the bright side, I guess it says a lot about his faith in you if he thinks you can fix the seasons/weather. 😀

Have you a scanner to recommend? I’m in the market for one and am too lazy to do research on it myself. 😉

A happy Sunday to you guys! xo

    1. Thanks Teresa! 😃 And yeah… I guess Phineas does think we’re rather magical so that’s cool! As for a scanner, I’m currently just using the one that’s on our Epson XP-600 photo printer and it’s not too bad. I know there are some scanners that only work when something is touching the screen or they’ll be blurry (so won’t work for sketchbooks), but this one does a fine job. When I was looking at large format scanners, the price jumped up to pro pricing, so I sort of abandoned the idea! 😊hehe

      1. I hear a lot of recommendations for Epsons. It’s just a matter of deciding which model works best for my needs…but it’s not easy to choose since there are a million model! Thanks for letting me know what you found. xo

  2. It is beautiful! I can feel the crispy air. I love the loose washes too.

I know many dogs who love the cool air and some even love the snow but I suppose both Phineas and my dog, Vince, like the warmer climate. Although Vince doesn’t like the 100+ temperatures either. I remember once when my husband took Vince out for a walk and he had to call me to get them because Vince sat down and refused to walk any further. I was worried about Vince being dehydrated but he seemed okay, just didn’t want to walk in the hot sun. Lol. I hope you, Philippe, and Phineas enjoy a cozy Sunday!!

  3. This is beautiful! Such lovely colours and a wicked sky. Good on Philippe for managing to perfect a looser style – whenever I try that, it seems to somehow come out exactly the same.

Heh! My cat Oscar has given up on the outdoors for the winter, but he is getting old now so I don’t blame him. I love the winter though, for situations you describe. Cuddles, tea by the fire, and snow. It is unfairly maligned! Go Winter!

      1. Yes, definitely – lay in until the afternoon ’cause it’s cold! Though, you know you’ve probably overdone it when you look out the window and it’s getting dark… oops!

  4. This is gorgous Philippe! Elegant simplicity at its best! Fall soon to be winter is in the air here too. I found a light sprinkling of snow on our deck this morning. For some reason I was shocked, I shouldn’t be, its that time of year.
