My name is Ahmad Bobby Ashari, but people always call me Bobby. I work as an architect and designer. (Please follow me on my Instagram and Facebook). I come from the city of Bogor, near Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital city. I started drawing as a fad at first, at school, since kindergarten. I was inspired by my father who was also an artist who is good at drawing and playing music.
When I was a child, I always drew on the wall of my parents’ house, not only on paper. It made my parents angry sometimes. What a very beautiful childhood memory. However, I began taking drawing seriously when I studied in the faculty of architecture, Trisakti University, Jakarta, Indonesia.
Although I had not made it as a hobby, now drawing has become part of my life because I really enjoy the process. The process of selecting and hunting an object, the process of how to transform the object into a drawing on paper with the media that I use and the process of how to finish the picture quickly. I really enjoy not only what the drawing is, but also how the drawing is made. My love of the art world is what inspires me to persevere in drawing. Besides the beauty of Indonesia, its culture also provides energy to my drawings.
My favorite objects to draw are the heritage building and cityscapes, because it is related to my profession as an architect and my pleasure to travel and my interest for old and historic buildings. Wherever I go, I always carry some sketchbooks, some paintbrushes and watercolor. If there are interesting objects I will pause to draw them. There is a big sensation I feel when I draw and then I get more of that feeling if I can give satisfaction to others who see it. Every picture I finish is sent to my Facebook and Instagram.
Drawing has helped me to make a lot of friends from all over the world. Drawing has become a universal language in my friendship with anyone else in this world. Besides, drawing can also be used as a self-healing in psychological terms… not good emotions can return to be normal when I transferred to the passion of drawing.
I also joined a community of urban sketchers in Indonesia and in the city of Bogor. My current passion to introduce sketching to Indonesian people and to introduce the beauty of my country of Indonesia to the world.
I have a lot of dreams. My biggest dream is to be able to travel around the world to draw objects that I like, especially buildings and cityscapes. I hope that dreams will come true someday.
As for techniques, I use different techniques, besides using watercolor as my favourite. I also like to use media ink and marker. I hope this description can provide inspiration to others and adds a lot of friends from all over the world (please follow me on my Instagram and Facebook!)
