GUEST DOODLEWASH: “Los Árboles” by Lidia Barragán

My name is Lidia Barragán (Follow me on Instagram @lidiaabarragan!). I’m from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and I love to draw. All my life I’ve drawn. One of my favorite things to draw is trees. I really love to draw trees! I always have a great fascination for their twisted forms, the texture of their trunks, their roots full of knots… They look like forest beings who observe quietly their environment and their bark reflects their experience and wisdom. I think they are like people, no two are alike, each has its own personality, its own identity, its own energy… Even, sometimes I can see faces in their trunks, I don’t know if that is because of their forms or because I’m a little crazy.

Doodlewash by Lidia BarragánI used to use them in more surrealistic or darker themes, mixing them with human figures. That was a few years ago. However, they still are a recurring theme in my work.

I love to go for a walk and sit on the grass and start drawing when I find a beautiful tree. Fortunately, where I live there are many parks and forests and it’s easy to find my “models.”

I try to use different techniques; watercolors, ink, color pencils, but I have a special predilection for graphite.  Experimenting is always good because you never stop learning!

Toda mi vida he dibujado.

  1. Super love for Lidia and her trees! They are beautifully rendered and the colors are so inviting. I can tell she really loves her subject matter! I feel like I need to get out and hike…humm, it’s 24 degrees right now, maybe I’ll just think about trees!

    1. Thank you very much for your words 🙂 ♥♥♥ And I’m sure that you can draw whatever you want 😉 It’s only practice and trees are easy to draw because they have whimsical forms. They have not exact form. It’s not the same like drawing a portrait or architecture. I invite you to try 😉 And thank you very much again ♥♥♥ (sorry my English)

  2. Thank you so much for this opportunity!!! I’m so grateful!!! ♥♥♥♥♥ And thank you very much for all that beautiful comments! I’m so excited and happy!!!! 😀

  3. Dear Lidia, I love the textures you use on your trees. I’m happy I can zoom in on my iPhone for a good look. 😊 Thank you for sharing your remarkable paintings and sketches. Thank you Charlie!!😻
