Today’s awesome doodlewashes come from the hand of Sarah Steele in Midland, Michigan (about two hours north of Detroit). Check out her blog and be sure to follow her on Instagram! Watercolor is definitely her favorite medium. She had always been afraid of it so she took a class and now she loves it so much. At the end of last year, Sarah decided to be more intentional about making art.
Sarah says, “I’ve been a graphic designer for 15 years and, while I love my job, I missed creating with my own two hands. I’ve always been interested in art. I used to drag my parents and sister to art museums, even on vacation. Thanks to me they’re well-rounded. Ha!” Sarah has a husband who is “the smartest and sweetest person I know, three awesome, funny and talented kids and a black pug named Pudgy (I’m the least creative person when it comes to dog names!).”
“I realized I needed to make time every day to paint or draw,” she says, “so I started doing a drawing/painting a day on January 1 and posting them on Instagram and my blog. I’ve learned so much from this daily discipline. I don’t have time to be afraid of the blank page. I have to just deal with it and create!”
The accountability of a daily practice has been good for Sarah. And she says the comments and likes online are also very encouraging! “So much inspires me,” she says, “and I want to draw everything. I feel like I should narrow my focus but so far I haven’t been able to do that!”
Thanks so much for joining the doodlewash family Sarah! It’s a pleasure to feature your art, and keep inspiring us daily on your blog and on Instagram! We’ll be following you!

I had to double take that tunic/dress, I thought it was actual gauzy material. And the birds- so cute! Beautiful!
Thank you!! I thought it was just me! It’s awesome, isn’t it Jessica!!?
OMG! I used to live in Midland, Michigan! I lived around the corner from Siebert Elementary and Jefferson Middle School! Great drawings!! Will follow on IG!!
And that bird’s nest reminded me that while living in Midland, a robin built a nest on out front door wreath. It laid beautiful blue eggs and we got to watch the birds hatch!
That’s soooo cool! Yay, Kari! Another connection made! 😃
