GUEST ARTIST: “Soft Finishes” by Jacklyn Moya Quintos

These gorgeous and colorful doodlewashes come to us from Jacklyn Moya Quintos in the Philippines. She is self-taught artist who has only relied on books and going to art museums to learn her craft. Filled with vivid colors combined with beautiful soft finishes, her work has a unique and wonderful quality. (follow her on Instagram!)

Jacklyn says, “When I was little, I kept on drawing my favorite cartoon characters. I remember, ‘Casper – the friendly ghost’ is the first drawing that I made in my sketchbook. My art life wasn’t that easy growing up. Art is not my family’s cup of tea, and I did not get encouraged to do so.”

But as she was growing, her passion for art has quickly grown. Though she did earn a bachelor’s degree in Nursing, her passion is still in arts and painting. “My favorite subjects to paint have always been nature. (Birds, flowers, leaves, trees) I usually sketch first, and paint with a weak wash, and start to build it up by layering and working on values.”

Today, Jacklyn teaches basic watercolor painting workshops. “I never knew it was so much fun. It was more than a class. You gain new friends, and it’s amazing how one medium can connect people, a total stranger just like that. Endless talk, endless laughter, endless sharing of passion and different techniques. Is is just so amazing!”

She is very pleased and honored to be able to share her work and what she knows. “That is why,” she says, “I put my heart into everything that I paint, and gladly share them to people that also have the same passion.” You found your people here, Jacklyn, and we’re so happy to include you in the doodlewash family! Be sure to follow her on Instagram for more!
