My name is Failasufa An and I’m from Semarang, Indonesia. Since 2011, I’ve been working as an architect in Jakarta, Indonesia. I started drawing again on April 2014 after I bought a digital piano. I needed new and unique homemade decorations hanging on the wall above the piano.
I didn’t get quite enough pleasure doing only one painting, so I knew I had to draw again and again. I draw by myself and with some of my friends after my office hours and on the weekend. My drawings tend to be animals in the surrealism genre, because I’m fond of animals series. On top of that, obviously, I am quite in love with manual drawing and storytelling about the surreal affinity between animals and human beings.
Through my drawing I try to show how human and animals should have a tranquil connection to each other and live in peace. Some of my illustrations came from my first childhood dream. I’ve always remembered it and, until now, it was a vague nightmare of a five year old girl. Thus, I tried to release my fear and my pain there.
My inspiration may come from what I’ve seen and captured during the moment on my vacation or my trip. What I really wanted to do or what I really missed about it. In addition, I always use gouache water color painting materials and pencil color for my illustration method but sometimes I use an oil painting method too. When I sketched just for fun, I did it only for 30 minutes but when I drew seriously, I did it for 2 weeks after my office hours.
