GUEST ARTIST: “The Bird Project” by Jaimie Campbell

These beautiful doodlewashes come to us from Jaimie Campbell in the San Joaquin Valley of California, where she lives with her husband, Evan, and their dogs. (follow her on Instagram and Twitter!) Jaimie grew up on a small farm in Palermo, California, where she learned to appreciate the beauty of nature and all living things.

“I had a passion for drawing and painting from a very early age,” she says, “causing my mother to cover the walls of my bedroom with blank newsprint paper to save having to clean them constantly. I pursued the art life through high school and college, studying design and illustration.”

Jaimie started her graphic design career straight out of college, and worked in publishing and advertising for 14 years, along with doing freelance illustration and photography. After suffering creative burnout, she moved to New Orleans to decompress and reevaluate her life priorities.

“I came to the decision to give up the stressful life of designing and just concentrate on my personal artwork. Since then I have worked in the truck driving/delivery industry, while doing artwork when time permits.”

Last year, she realized that she wasn’t being as productive or content with her artwork. So, she cut her driving to part time and started “The Bird Project”. The “project” requires her to create one piece of art a day, featuring a bird, which she posts to her @maaadkat Instagram feed.

“It is a way to keep me motivated to show up to my art table every day. It has been fantastic! My creativity, skills and confidence are improving daily. As the year is coming to a close, plans are in the works to share the “The Bird Project” on the web and in person.”

Be sure to stay up to date with Jaimie by following her on Instagram and Twitter. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous doodlewashes with us Jaimie! Can’t wait to see more as you complete your wonderful project!
