It’s another Sunday, and another doodlewash from Philippe (@Phinomet)! This time we’re visiting The Westside neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri. This was the view he had for his birthday dinner at our favorite local restaurant called Novel.
The sunset was amazing that night and we were able to get a table outside since the weather was unseasonably warm. It was a wonderful night, and this is view of the building directly across the street. The light kept changing and colors were shifting as the sun dropped out of sight for the night.
Philippe liked the composition of the squares and lines in this and how these interact with the more organic shape of the tree. “I saw the utility post as a sort of urban tree and liked the contrast with the natural tree across from it,” he said. Next, he captured what he saw in the form of this lovely doodlewash.

Nicely painted Phillipe, rich colors and the grid of lines offers a very interesting view.
So happy you liked this Sharon!! Thanks! 😃❤️ (Since Philippe doesn’t read my blog I have to read all of these comments to him. He smiled big! 😉👍🏻)
I love Philippe as your Sunday guest! Lovely painting, vibrant colors and beautiful washes! Happy Birthday Philippe!
Thanks Cathe!! Glad you like the Sundays with Philippe feature! ❤️😃 If I start to run out of other guest artists I’m going to have to get him to paint more!! Hehe 😊
Gorgeous sunset indeed! I love how saturated the colors are! I’m always afraid to put down a lot of pigment but I love the look!
Thanks for commenting Kari!! ❤️😃Glad you like this! Yeah…our M. Graham colors really pump up the color. Doesn’t take much to get a pretty saturated scene which we like! 😃
Definitely a feeling of dusk. Philippe is good at mystery. (K)
He is! That’s a good way to put it Kerfe! He always leaves more for the imagination to fill in than I do. 😉
I like everything about Philippe’s drawing. The rich red’s are wonderful and the squares are cool. But that sky. Wowzer.
I know… I agree… He’s getting so good it’s making me feel inadequate. Lol 😊
Very nice bit of urban scenery!
Thanks!! Glad you liked Philippe’s handiwork! 😉👍🏻
I like Philippe’s idea of the telephone pole and the tree as the human-made and natural versions of one another. Definitely an artistic mind.
