GUEST ARTIST: “Watercolor Is Like A Style Of Life” by Anna Fedorovich

My name is Anna Fedorovich and I’m from Moscow, Russia. When I was a child, I wanted to dance, to play in the children’s theatre. My mom just said “Do you want to try? Just to try?” Here begins the story.

When I was 10 years old, I went to the drawing lessons, and after that I went to the art school. I’m currently studying cinema and theatre at the University, but I don’t like it that much, I think that it’s not for me. I have been painting for almost all my life, but just now, I’m really enjoy it. When you understand what you want and what you really love life begins to be more interesting. I think, it is very important to be able to hear yourself.

As for what I’m doing now, I just finished my plein air in Barcelona. Now I’m in Moscow, preparing some drawings for University. I use Russian watercolors, from Saint Petersburg, and also have some tubes from Winsor & Newton, Sennelier, and Van Gogh. I want to try all brands to choose one.

The paper I use is Arches. I love more the Satin, but it’s very difficult to paint on, maybe for this reason I love it. Actually, I paint on all kinds of paper. It’s very sad to waste such expensive materials, so for practice I use cheap paper. The brushes I have are Escoda from Spain, Roubloff from Russia, and Da Vinci.

I love a watercolor because it’s very light, compact, and soulful. One thing  which I love is that if you don’t wash your brushes and a palette nothing will happen. Also I love oils and acrylics, but I’m very lazy to open and close them all. I’m making illustrations, painting on postcards, painting on textiles, making toys, and I always have a lot of ideas. I catch the inspiration in nature, there are a lot of interesting things… the people, the light, architecture.

I can’t draw a picture for more than two days, I get bored. Usually I paint all my drawings during 2 hours. I’m not always satisfied with the result, but it gives me a kick to improve. I want to find my style, show people my vision. I very much love to paint in the street, to sing songs, enjoy a moment. It’s very important to enjoy the process.

Art… it’s not a simple thing, you have to believe in yourself. Believe that you’ll have a result and you’ll have it!
