Today’s gorgeous guest doodlewash is from Grace Yvonne Millette, from British Columbia, Canada (follow her on Instagram @alightinglightly). Her beautiful depictions of nature as well as furry and feathery friends are definitely worth checking out!
Grace says, “The spirit of creativity has been fluttering in my heart from early on leading to a beginning in a college art program. However, I set that aside and it took me way to many years before I began to feel it was okay to engage in my art and begin drawing again.” (so happy you did!) This past spring her Instagram posts have included the beginning of her now regular watercolor practice.
Her process is very organic as there is “much intermingling between nature and the garden of my imagination.” Circumstances allowing, she enjoys beginning outdoors as she loves to draw from life (hence, all those images of her furry friend, Blitz, on Instagram!) and often adds photos from her phone to her references.
Grace says, “After my initial pencil drawing the watercolour dance begins. And, here I am learning to pause for an overview first! I can easily pass the time engaged in the magical play of floating colour and water about on the paper… and with watercolour that can be entrancing!” (We definitely agree, Grace!)
Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful doodlewashes with the world Grace, and so happy you’re back to creating art again. Looking forward to seeing all the magical and beautiful things you’ll create next!

What a lovely piece from a fellow British Columbia! 🙂
Pretty gorgeous eh? Be sure to check out Grace’s other work! Also…did this post happen to show up in your reader?
Yes, this showed up in my Reader! I think I may have missed one of your posts that came in email only (and not the Reader); I get so much email that things get buried quickly and I totally lose track. :}
Yay! That one worked at least! WordPress assured me it was working, so thanks for letting me know! Hehe
That is awesome. The way her colors interact! It so beautifully highlights the very bright bits. Wonderful.
I know!! It’s is it awesome?! Glad you like it Kirk!
I’m in awe! Magical!
Pretty cool, eh? Thanks for commenting Sharon!!
I love how she talks about the watercolour dance. This is beautiful. I’d love to be able to intertwine nature with my imagination as she does. Thanks for sharing this, Charlie.
I thought you’d like this one Laura!! Hehe…and Uhm…that’s really what you already do so beautifully with your natural abstracts friend! 😉
Thank you so much, Charlie. I need to get better. I am working hard to improve. I appreciate your kind encouragement.
I have a feeling “I’m working hard to improve” will be our final words to the end, Laura! I figure the first day I think “I’ve got this, and I have no more to learn” is the first day I’ve stopped being an artist. 😉
I think you’re right. It’s the endless challenge that makes it so much fun!
This is beautiful! I love the subtle changes in color that add depth.
Thanks for commenting Kari! Be sure to follow Grace on Instagram!! 😃
I am!
Such a graceful dance of watercolour, both beautiful and enchanting! Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks Haunani! It was something a bit different for me. I’m so happy you like it!! 😃
Painting of the white flowers is excellent. A hard “color” to paint accurately.
