Our flight out of Texas was cancelled today, causing us to rush home by grabbing an earlier flight. My leisurely morning where I was going to paint a bit before lunch with family was transformed into a mad rush to get packed and out the door as quickly as possible. By the time I made it home, I was completely out of energy, so I grabbed some references and made this lightning fast little 3-color doodlewash. I’ve no idea what I’ve actually made here, but I think it’s a cold chocolate beverage with whipped cream and a hot chocolate one topped with lots of marshmallows. Even if the identification is sketchy, I’m assuming that if either were actually real they would be delicious regardless of their temperature. They do after all, contain chocolate, which always makes for a delicious drink of any kind!

As much I love chocolate drinks I rarely have them. If I’m going to top things off with whipped cream, I prefer it to be cooler rather than hot so the whipped cream doesn’t dissolve with the first stab of the spoon. I prefer to eat the whipped cream by itself as a sort of bonus treat before indulging in the liquid chocolate underneath. As a kid though, it was always about the marshmallows. Little floating bits of white heaven in a chocolate pool of goodness. Though I usually only got two or three to add, I dreamed of something like what’s shown here. Where the marshmallows are a full quilt of sugary awesomeness, hiding the drink below. These days, I’m not much of a marshmallow fan, but back then, they were one of the best little treats a little boy could have.

Tonight, this bit little boy is just thrilled to finally be home and not have to travel for the foreseeable future. Though it’s been a blast seeing family over the past few weeks, it will be nice to hide at home with just Philippe and the little basenji. Phineas just returned from “camp” and was his usual equal parts ecstatic to see us and super pissed that we had the gall to leave him in the first place. Now, he’s already disappeared to bed upstairs and I have to admit that I’m looking forward to joining him fairly soon this evening. But all things considered, life is pretty darn great. Things have been a bit bumpy lately, going from hot to cold with little warning, but for now, we’re back home and safe. Ready to enjoy the coming season filled with glittering lights, presents, and if everything goes how it should, perhaps just a little bit of fabulous chocolate.

  1. Your painting looks exactly as you described it – and it looks delicious. Please remember that dark chocolate is GOOD for you – so, indulge. I haven’t found anything good to say about marshmallows, except let me have a few more, please. Ah, that’s good. You paint, I’ll eat. Thanks, Charlie. Glad you and Phillipe are safely home with the boss.

    1. Thanks, Sharon! 😃💕 Yes! Dark chocolate is!! hehe… I’m sure it’s only good for you in moderation though, like everything unfortunately. But a wonderful excuse for indulging for sure! And thanks… we’re back home with the boss… who’s too sleepy to boss us around at the moment though. lol

  2. Hi Charlie, really enjoy your doodlewashes and glad you are home for awhile. You sound like a very happy person and that along with your paintings makes me smile.
Happy Holidays to you and yours. 😊🎄🎅🏻🎉

    1. Thanks so much, Rebecca! 😃💕 yeah… it’s been insane lately with travel. I’m rather surprised I was still able to pull off the daily posts. So thrilled that things have calmed down now though! (now I really have no excuses not to post daily if I could do it through all of that! 😊Lol)

  3. Perfect for a dark December evening! I do have a hot chocolate basically every day.. but the marshmallows come out at Christmas. Lovely doodlewash!

Welcome back, too! Haha, I reckon Phineas is just going to use these trips to ‘camp’ as an excuse for an extra long Christmas list this year. It’s probably why he rushed upstairs so early – lots of writing to do! 😉

  4. Oh that A wonderful couple of chocolates! Looks beautiful with your 3 colors I made a white running bunny holding his hot chocolate this prompt was very inspiring! Well done Charlie and welcome back home! 😉 <3
