Written by So what does a doodlewash of a tiger have to do with my Kansas City tour? Well… we do have a zoo with them, but this is an homage to my high school mascot! I went to high school in Lee’s Summit, a suburb of Kansas City, back when there was only one high school there, and I was a proud Lee’s Summit Tiger, even though I never actually participated in any sports. Also… I just really felt like doodlewashing a tiger for some bizarre reason.
I used my little Moleskine again and grabbed my pen for a quick sketch that I immediately doodlewashed with Cadmium Orange, Burnt Sienna, Payne’s Gray, Sap Green, and a touch of Quinacridone Gold for the eyes and Alizarin Crimson for the nose.
It’s a bit wonky on proportions, but overall it does indeed look like the head of a tiger so I’m pleased with the result. I’m really enjoying that I’m managing to sketch faster as I practice more and more. It’s always been my dream to sketch quickly and effectively without laboring for an hour or more over tiny details. And though I’m still not as fast as I’d like to be, it’s faster than ever before so I’m happy.
Why is fast a goal? Well, I just started an awesome new project that I’ll tell you more about in the future that will be taking a lot of my time, so fast will be a must in order to doodlewash daily! And also… it’s just super fun to go from a blank page to something sort of artful in not a lot of time. To be able to complete a sketch on a short break will be wonderful once I get faster still! One way I’ve managed to do art everyday for 3 1/2 years is to sometimes paint on index cards. The perfect little size is pleasing and when I only have 15 minutes I still feel I’ve accomplished a moment of Zen. Waiting on the edge of my seat for your news!
That’s about the exact size of one page of my little Moleskine, Beverly! Hehe…I’ve found the same to be true. I figure any little thing you can make is still something and daily practice is so important!! 😃😃
