For our prompt of “drinks” today, since I’m in Paris, one might expect I’d show you a lovely espresso. But, after several walking miles, we delightfully paused briefly this afternoon and I decided to have a bit of Irish coffee instead. I’m not sure why I felt Irish whiskey was needed, but with the cold breeze it felt like exactly the right thing in the moment. Also, I actually am Irish, so it just felt right. Today, we went on a bit of a shopping spree and purchased some new clothes, which always makes me rather happy. Getting them all at half price, due to the sales currently happening, made me even happier. Since I’m not used to walking this much, this was also the first day that I felt the burn, so the speak. My legs were starting to ache and forgotten little muscles I’m rather glad to know I still have are all in a bit of stiff pain at the moment. I’m actually fine as long as I keep walking, but the moment I stop, it’s a bit harder to get going again. But, it’s a small price to pay for an absolutely delightful break, and a price I really should pay since I’m eating enough carbs to run a full marathon.

This evening we traveled to Philippe’s brother’s place, which is very close to Disneyland Paris, for a crèpe party. We did this on the last visit and it’s totally fun. There’s a little heating device with 6 little circles in it so each person can cook their own tiny crèpe. You then add ham and cheese, or salmon and cheese, or a few of each, which is what I opted for in the end. After the savory crèpe, a bit of rum was added as we switched to crêpes sucrées and enjoyed a bit of dessert. This is my favorite part as it comes with a can of whipped cream. Though chocolate and caramel are options to add, I mostly just have fruit with a bit of cream. And yes, just a dollop of whipped cream all by itself at the end. This is also why the incessant walking is an absolute must while we’re here. Otherwise, we’d balloon up like pufferfish by the time we left. But, thankfully, everything balances out, and we’re the same size as when we arrived. As if I didn’t already adore Paris, this makes me love it even more. Fabulous food with a built-in gym you simply can’t avoid is a genius invention if there ever was one.

It’s also actually Wednesday now here and already past 1am, since I can often only write these posts when we’re back in our apartment. Back home, we’d be passed out by now, but we’ve been sleeping in a bit while we’re here and our schedule has shifted quite a few hours. Tomorrow night we’re taking Philippe’s mother to the theatre so I’m really looking forward to that. And best of all, tonight I got to not only paint with my niece, but also sing songs and play games as well. Turns out she’s a huge fan of Frozen and played one of the songs (in French) over and over again while singing along. I captured the entire performance on video. I thought it was only going to be a few lines and then she’d get shy, but she performed for the camera and completed the entire song with the cutest dramatic flair. Then she kicked our butts in a Frozen-themed game of concentration, where you flip over cards trying to remember which ones will make a match. I came in second with a respectable pile of cards, and Philippe third with only two, but during the game, she helped her tonton Charlie by slyly pointing to the correct one. It was truly the perfect day of silly fun, which also included something as simple and unexpected as an Irish coffee in Paris.

  1. I couldn’t help but smile while reading about your adventures. Thank you for bringing us along. I leave the whiskey for my husband to enjoy, but great doodlewash.

    1. Thanks, Laura! 😃💕 hehe… yeah, I do enjoy a spot of whiskey every now and again, but it’s not for everyone to be sure. And thrilled you’re enjoying the stories on this trip… they’re tough sometimes to sneak in, but it’s fun to try to capture the moments!

  2. Lucky you!! Paris!! I have been so fascinated with Paris and anything French. Though truth be told, I haven’t always felt that way. I think once I got over my thinking that the French hates us and our seemingly lack of speaking their language. I have long forgiven whoever I had a prejudice against, yes, I had a double standard going on, silly me. By the way, an Irish coffee is one of my favorites, but the real stuff, whipped up and so yummy! My husband has become quite good at making cocktails. Have you been affected by the problems in Paris? So disheartening. Anyhoo, so fun to hear about your adventures!

    1. Thanks, Margaret! 😃💕 yeah, the French are quite lovely, but you do have to at least make an attempt at the language. It’s just a little more so here than in other countries. hehe And yay to a husband who makes great cocktails! Yum! And there’s been no issues here since we’ve been here. In truth, I still always feel safer than when in the U.S.! (85% fewer people carrying guns). Also, we’re never in the heavily populated tourist spots because… ugh… no fun! lol

  3. Each time I read your “Paris posts” I feel like I’m there,
enjoying the City of Lights right along with you and yours.

That Irish coffee looks like it would warm you to the core.
    Beautiful!

    1. That’s the brilliant part about Paris… everything is made with a third of the sugar!😃💕 hehe… it’s often on the side and I just skip it. But as fast as Philippe walks, I’m also rather certain I’ve run as well! lol
