Liebster Award Doodlewash

Lessons in Doodlewashing: Liebster Award

So I was recently nominated for a Liebster Award (thanks so much Francis at AIMazing Grace!), and I typically shy away from these because they seem a bit like a chain letter and are either going to be seen as something super cool  and fun, or a big annoyance to the people you include.

After a little digging, apparently this is an online meme award given by bloggers to other bloggers. Liebster is a german word that roughly translates to “dearest,” among other words, but don’t worry, all appear to be positive and good. There are apparently “rules” which most of you know I’m not really a fan of… and actually I think I broke the first rule because I used a slightly different picture I found, since I liked the font better. At any rate, here they are:

THE RULES:

  • Use the picture.
  • Answer the questions.
  • Nominate 10 blogs.
  • Ask the same questions.

I was about to pass on it and then I thought… what the heck? Why not! It’s a great excuse to let people know about some of the wonderful blogs I’m currently enjoying and answering questions doesn’t appear too challenging. So on to…

THE QUESTIONS:

  1. Which literary genre do you prefer?
I love humor, mysteries and thrillers. I realize that’s three, but my mood shifts drastically between these and I never really know where I’ll land on a given day. Additionally, I haven’t read a book in over a month so this is more of a helpful reminder. Must read more.
  2. Which book you know and love?
Interestingly, this question requires you to actually know the book first before loving it. I’m no longer thinking of specific books, but lost in the subtle absurdity of this question. So I’ll say Tina Fey’s Bossypants. I haven’t read it, but I know of it, and it seems like something I would rather like.
  3. Which book you’re passionate about now?
Passionate is rather a high bar, as I’m not sure if I’ve been truly passionate about a single book. Though I have to say that Paul Laseau’s little book on watercolor sketching was something that really jumpstarted and inspired me on my Doodlewash journey.
  4. Why did you start blogging?
I was trying watercolor sketching for the first time this past July and knew that if I didn’t tell anyone about it I wouldn’t keep doing it. And I immediately started recruiting people around the world so I wouldn’t feel lonely and hoped we might inspire each other a bit.
  5. Order or chaos?
Some days I’m honestly not sure if I understand the difference.
  6. Where would you like to live?
I would love to live in Paris, but realize my complete inability to speak the language properly makes this prospect a bit ridiculous.
  7. Starry sky or sunset?
I’m going to have to go with sunset here, as it’s just more fun to doodlewash.
  8. Better the paper book, rather than the ebook?
Paper books still have my love, but they’re completely impractical in most situations compared to ebooks, so I’ve converted entirely. I realize now this was a horrible mistake, because instead of one book I’m reading, I’m carrying an entire library full of distractions and end up reading none of them.
  9. What is the writing for you? Do you see it as a hobby or hoping for a future as a writer?
I definitely see writing as a hobby because I haven’t found anyone willing to pay me well enough to attempt it full time. But I would love to write a book one day (my previous children’s book is still out there in cyberspace, but this one would be for adults, or at least big kids).
  10. What do you think about social networks?
I love the ability to meet a varied group of people you would never be able to meet otherwise. Instagram is really the only social network I use regularly. Staying in touch with friends has been bothersome because I don’t really use Facebook and miss out on almost every party that happens. Not liking parties, however, this actually works out fairly well.

So this is the tough part. Nominating just 10 blogs. There are so many wonderful blogs I follow, so this is where you end up leaving someone out without meaning to. I was about to give up and quit this entirely when I had an idea.

Comments are the life blood of any blog, so I’ll let WordPress tell me who the top 10 folks are who comment regularly and keep the Doodlewash engine burning. They’re also some of my favorite people on the planet with wonderful blogs, so this worked out well. If you’re not already following these amazing people, you definitely should.

THE NOMINEES:

  1. One Good Thing
  2. Jaywalks
  3. Method Two Madness
  4. Life In Between
  5. Sharon Mann Illustrations
  6. Art By Yukari
  7. Conversation Is An Engine
  8. Art And Moondreams
  9. Jill’s Art Journal
  10. Amaryllislog

Now, of course, I have no idea how many of these fine folks even want to be awarded anything or play this little game with me. But on a day about giving thanks it gives me the perfect excuse to call out some individuals who have made my life super happy and my blogging journey amazingly fun!

So thanks with all my heart you beautiful nominees you! Enjoy your Liebster Award, and feel free to play along or pass on this entirely if you’ve zero interest in these things. It’s really just wonderful to know you’re out there making people smile with your beautiful blogs. Keep it up my friends!

Cheers,
Charlie O'Shields

  1. Dear Charlie, congratulations, it was fun reading your answers to the ten questions. You certainly deserve recognition from the blog world for your support of artists worldwide.
Also, to my surprise you have nominated me! What an honor. Thank you. I’m especially thrilled because you have included me with all my favorite blogs. I’m very grateful to be part of this esteemed group of fabulous artists.

  2. Congratulations !
And I loved your “acceptance speech” 😉
Just like you , I like to receive these awards , it is fun , but I do really hate to nominate people for the same reasons as you do … and that is why I have been lagging behind on my awards 😉
Have a great weekend ( I know I will as I will be visiting and enjoying your nominees )
    Turtle Hugs 🙂

  3. Congrats on being nominated! You deserve far more recognition than that since you tirelessly promote others! ❤️❤️

And THANK YOU for nominating me! In the words of Sally Field: you like me! You really like me! 😀 I’m so not worthy, but I have nothing planned for my next post on Saturday so I will run with the Liebster, liebchen! 😉💕 My write-up won’t be as fun as yours but you’ll forgive me, won’t you? *mwah*!

    1. Hehe! Thanks Catherine! Let me know what you think of it if you do! 😉And I just now saw the post you made about me. Sorry for the delay…saw you name pop up and decided to search to see if you did it! Hehe you did and thank you! Are you on WordPress? There’s no follow button when I went to your site so I don’t think I’m following you…and your link in comments doesn’t take me to your actual blog.

  4. I can only echo the sentiments of those who have got here earlier: with the effort you put into giving others the spotlight I can’t think of a blog more deserving of such recognition. Congratulations! (party horn)

Like Teresa, I too came over all Sally Field to see my name on the list! I’ll look forward to checking out some of the unfamiliar names on there. This has genuinely made my day – you know I would just nominate you straight back, but I’m not sure that’s allowed 😛 Now, I must find my cummerbund and prepare a speech, I suppose!

  5. You are amazing #doodlewash Charlie O. especially for the BIG E for EFFORT of re-posting this Liebster Award and also for posting the different version of the logo which I agree, the font is awesome! I would say, doing this is one way also that some other bloggers will know about your works, know more about you aside from “ABOUT” page. 🙂 I believe re-posting this is also one way of giving back the appreciation to the folks who regularly drops some comments! 🙂

    Keep #doodlewashing Charlie!

  6. Yay, Charlie! Congratulations! I really look forward to both of your posts daily! I love the way you tell stories not to mention your awesome doodlewashes! And I’m just thrilled I’m included in your list.. ❤️❤️❤️

  7. Charlie, you deserve more than an award, I’m not sure even a statue will do! Congratulations! You are such a wonderful and charming blogger and connector to other wonderful people! And thank you for including me, I’m very touched.

I love that you found another version of the award that has a better font.

    1. Hehe… Good fonts are not optional!! Lol And on the off chance anyone wanted to display it on their blog, I wanted to make sure it was nice looking. 😊 You’re so sweet! Thanks so much Cathe! I was thrilled to “nominate” you, even though that makes it sound like none of us have actually won anything yet. 🤔 I think the really prize has been meeting people like you! 😉❤️😃

  8. Charlie, I’m amazed you’ve only been doodlewashing since July! wow! I’m glad you answered the questions, because I learned from them about Paul Laseau’s book which may end up in my xmas list. I totally ‘get” not wanting to answer the questions and pass it on. glad you did tho….

  9. I just caught up with this my sweet Charlie O! Thanks for the shout out! Seems I am one of your Top 10 “commenters.” LOL! An award nomination for loving you! How grand! 🙂 Thanks for the mention, Buddy! You are very sweet!

    1. You’re quite welcome! I never know what to do with these, but I thought giving some of my favorite peeps a shout out was a great thing to do! 😉 I think we are all each other’s too commenters, so let the mutual admiration society commence! We are winners all around! Hehe ❤️😃

  10. I’ve been meaning to thank you for the nomination, Charlie! 😊 Thank you kindly, my friend. I don’t tend to do these awards but I will think about it. 💖💕 I enjoyed reading your answers though. 😄

    1. Hehe…I don’t do them either, but I thought answering the questions would be fun as I had some time to kill before Philippe was done making some food, and then thought…hey, I get to promote 10 blogs?! That’s totally my thing! Lol 😊 just happy to link to your loveliness my friend! 😉👍🏻💕

  11. Going through some of your earlier posts, this seemed like a good one to read after your 1000th daily consecutive post – there’s no painting but your answers to the Liebster Award give a word painting of where you were in November of 2015. I can already see the Charlie of 2018 here, and fully understand how you made it to 1000 posts.
