Today’s prompt is gift so I figured I would share a couple little gifts I got for Christmas. New art supplies!! Philippe gave me a Whiskey Painters Standard Palette with a few extra half pans, so it now has 12 spots for color. It’s extraordinarily small, which I love, and yet feels sturdy with a bit of weight to it. Along with this, I also received a starter set of nine Mission Gold watercolors, which I’ve listed at the end this post. Rather than make swatches, as one probably should, in my typical fashion I just jumped right in and started using them. All nine were used to make this doodlewash of the very palette I used to paint it with. The colors are intense and I’m not quite used to using them, but it was a fun little experiment to try while Philippe is upstairs playing the video game I bought him. Getting gifts is so much fun, but spending the day attempting to play with all of them is even more fun!
Despite painting daily for 540 days now, I’ve not been particularly adventurous with art supplies. Choosing instead, to just stick with whatever I have on hand. If you’re interested in learning more about Mission Gold watercolors, do check out Jessica Seascrest’s wonderful review of them or her review of metal travel palettes. But, these were absolutely wonderful gifts to receive and I had fun playing with them. As the evening approaches, I’m finding myself a little exhausted, most likely due to all of my overly exuberant childlike enthusiasm for all things Christmas. My inner child was on full blast and it kind of wore me out. But it’s been a splendid time and I hope that all of you who celebrate today have had a perfectly magical day doing something really fun!
Tonight, we’ll be eating light as we are still stuffed from last evening’s feast. It also included a bit of experimentation in that we tried Wild Scottish pheasant for the first time and quite possibly the last. It was too weird. But trying new things is always a blast, and we like to mix something new in with our little traditions each year. And sitting once again in the sparkling lights of the season, I’m just incredibly happy. Thanks so much to each of you out there who look at my daily doodlewashes and read my little ramblings. I appreciate it more than words can say. Each comment and like lets me know that I’m not alone in this and are the little gifts that give me the encouragement to keep going. And for all of you celebrating this day as well, I sincerely wish you a very Merry Christmas!
