It’s the end of our last full day in Paris and it was packed with plans, so I only had time for a quick little doodlewash of these macarons. We stopped by Le Bon Marché today and I was staring at these treats and wanted one initially, but then remembered how impossibly sweet they can be, so I opted for something else entirely. But they’re beautiful, colorful treats that are iconic in France and make me happy whenever I see them. I’m thoroughly exhausted, but feeling thankful for such a wonderful trip. Tomorrow, will be the last French breakfast before jumping in a car to head back to the airport for the long journey home. I’m really going to miss it here, but it’s a comfort knowing we’ll be back. And there’s a little dog waiting back home who’s ready to be reunited with us.
I’m so tired right now and still have to make sure I’ve packed everything properly. By I that I simply mean not leaving anything behind and then praying that my suitcase isn’t so heavy it gets charged an extra fee with that embarrassing orange “heavy” sticker. Though I thought I showed a lot of restraint with shopping here, my suitcase begs to differ and I attempt to place each new thing inside like I’m trying to complete a jigsaw puzzle. My new little sketchbooks will be traveling with me on the plane so I can assure they’re safe and sound, of course. And the only good thing about my current exhaustion is that I might actually sleep a bit this time on the flight home. With that, I’ll end this post a bit early so I can get to bed for one last night in Paris and dreams full of macarons and happy memories.

Sweet dreams, Charlie and have a safe trip home! 💜😊
Thanks so much, Jill!! 😃💕 Travel day begins now… ugh… this part isn’t as fun as eating baguettes each day.
Macarons! What a special treat, even if only to look at them. It’s been wonderful having you share your trip to Paris with us. Safe travels home.
Thanks so much! 😃💕 So happy you enjoyed the trip! It’s been wonderful, but will also be good to be back home again.
I know it’s sad leaving, but you have so many wonderful memories and all your doodles you’ve posted for us. AND that little doggie waiting for you at home! Safe trip Charlie!!!!
Thanks so much, Sharon! 😃💕 Yes!! The little dog will be a bit irritated with us at first for leaving him this long… hehe… but then it will be back to life as usual.
I remember coming home and my mustard and face mister being confiscated..imagine..
I had put them in my purse because they were precious..
Yeah it’s sort of mystery as to what they allow and what they don’t. But those do sound like precious things… bummer they took them from you!!
Classic! Yummy!
Thanks so much, Susan! 😃💕
macarons – i could eat all three and still want more! good thing they’re only on the page here – beautifully, tantalizingly painted in sweet glory.
Thanks, Sharon!! 😃💕 hehe… yeah, they’re not very cheap there or here. Glad you’re a fan! I remember Phlippe and I sharing one on our last trip that was a giant vanilla one we got at Pierre Hermé… we sat on a bench in the Tuileries Garden to eat it. Still found it too sweet, but ate the whole thing of course! Lol
Fab macarons – needless to say, I want. Those colours will make anyone happy! It’s been so nice tagging along; your enjoyment has been clear in all that you’ve doodlewashed and written – even the bit about the funky loo roll! – and these sketches will ever remind you of this particular Parisian getaway… especially all the naughty nosh! 😉
Thanks, Jacob! 😃 Glad you enjoyed this trip. It ended up more personal than just documenting landmarks, so I figured I’d add one in at least … macarons! hehe They’re like a landmark there!
Haha, maybe we can pitch a Macaron tower/pyramid! 😉
haha!! yes!!!
Ah! Il ne manquait plus qu’eux !!
The best one are from Ladurée, with splendid boxes. By the way Ladurée (rue Royal, near La Madeleine) is open on Sunday ans you can have lunch or afternoon tea or coffee (or whatelse) if you can wait… Next time, you can go also to Angelina in front of Tuileries garden. They have incredible hot chocolate and delicious cakes too, in plus of the beautiful 30th years decoration. You have to make the queue at 4 or 5 o’clock allas…Many english people in the place ;)) Place de la Madeleine you have also Fauchon a luxury place but you can try some of their cake or sandwiches too. I try to give you some notes to take and remember for next year, but I’m sure you known them… Have a nice trip to home and of course it’s so pleasant to see again your little dog !!
Merci beacoup, Laurence! 😃 It was so nice having you join for this trip! I really appreciate all the tips and suggestions. Philippe and I shared a giant one from Pierre Hermé and sat in the Tuileries Garden. But they are soooo sweet! lol I think I’ll take a fruit tartelette any day instead of them. 😊 Back home again, reunited with an equally tired dog who’s been at “camp” for 2 weeks. hehe
Yes too sweet, I know. It’s only good with a cup of tea without sugar of course !! Pierre Hermé began his great carrer at the Maison Ladurée after leaving Fauchon. So glad I gave you idea to spend your time sweetly ;))
Happy landings, Charlie! Mr. Dog will be delirious with joy! I’ve always wanted to paint the display of macaroons and other goodies (éclairs, religieuses etc) In all their glorious colors at Ladurée but haven’t got around to it yet…. Yours are scrumptious 🍰🍰🍰
Thanks, Marina! 😃💕 You should totally paint them! I would love to do a full windows of sweets one day when I have time. Was lucky to sneak in 3 macarons though this time. hehe
Safe travels Charlie. Loved your trip and that you took time to sketch and share with us.
Thanks so much, Teri!! 😃💕
Safe travels, Charlie! Thanks so much for taking us along on your adventures through Paris. So nice to get to share the more local side of the city! Those macarons are a wonderful way to bid adieu!
Thanks, Ellie! 😃💕 So happy you joined me for this trip! hehe… it was so fun to live there for a brief time and already can’t wait to return!
Thank you so much for the beautiful stories living in Paris for a couple of weeks!
I have enjoined them every day.
Looking forwards for the next one coming from your hometown where the sweet dog is waiting for you; so happy return.
Have a safe trip home Charlie, dreaming about the fantastic memories of your stay in the Town of Light!
Margriet
awww, Margriet! 😃💕 Thank you for going on this little trip with me. So pleased you enjoyed the doodlewashes and stories. It was such an amazing time and I’m glad I ended up sketching little snapshots that were personal to me rather than the more famous things. It will be a nice memory to look back on of this trip.
Welcome home, Charlie! 😄 I looked forward to your Paris Doodlewashes everyday. Thanks for the memories! 😉👍
