Written by After a long week of pursuing perfectly crazy dreams for Doodlewash, I’m happy to report that everything is coming along much more smoothly now! That said, it still means even less time to paint, so for our prompt of glassy, we have this little 20 minute doodlewash of a perfectly unidentifiable drink. The little kid in me took over and he just felt like splashing around some primary colors and letting them do whatever the heck they felt like doing. But I’m feeling rather happy at the moment, because things are actually working out like I’d hoped they would. It made me ponder about the idea of magical thinking, where one’s thoughts alone can bring about effects on the world. For me, it’s probably just a case of insane and happily misguided optimism, but it amounts to the same thing I think. I truly belief that we can do absolutely anything if we adopt the right mindset. Simply thinking that something is going to happen and focusing our energy on making it happen produces rather magical effects in life. I’m not sure about this drink, though. If I had to guess, I imagine it would taste like whatever purple might taste like if colors themselves had flavors.
As a kid, my crazy dreams would often make others think me perfectly insane. Whether it was that time I found a book on Native American sign language and formed a club for all the kids on the block so we could learn it properly, or the many other times when I decided something just had to happen. I guess it never occurred to me when I was growing up that dreams were something that were sometimes meant to simply be a figment of imagination. The idea that one could simply think about something casually and never pursue it somehow never became a concept in my life. Daydreams simply meant that my night ahead was going to be rather exhausting indeed. I’ve always wanted to build wild ideas into something real. I guess it’s no wonder I’ve spent my life as a Creative Director, I certainly would be rubbish at anything that required pure logic. No, I’d rather think just outside that box and combine ideas that have no business being together in the first place to create something entirely new.
Soon, I’ll be properly announcing exciting new features here on Doodlewash, but I’m still in the process of testing them all out to make sure nothing explodes. Things have a way of doing that in these experimental phases. I hope you like the new look and feature section on the homepage. I wanted to create a better way to showcase the stories of the amazing artists that are featured here each week. And now is a good time as any to mention again that if you’re a watercolor artist who would like to be featured, please contact me and let me know! Life can have a lot of ups and downs and it sometimes seems like things might never quite work out the way we planned. All I know is that with a strong positive attitude, it’s pretty easy to turn things around. I don’t think this type of approach works as smoothly for things like winning the lottery or being able to fly like Superman. That would be awesome, though! But if you have a dream that you can actually make happen, then what on earth are you waiting for? Anytime is a good time to take a step back, throw caution to the wind, and engage in a glorious bit of magical thinking.

Ah, yes, here in America, we refer to that as the “think” method. It was first introduced by a fella by the name of Professor Harold Hill from Gary Indiana. I’ve used it for years, Charlie. Quite effective. 😉
