    Janessa,

I have a tote bag my boyfriend was gifted from an arts organization.  It’s a wide bag though.

    Sandra,

It is a similar neutralized gray violet like Shadow Violet, but it granulates like Bloodstone or the Lunar colors.

    My sketch kit consists of:

    1. Stillman and Birn 8×10 Softcover Sketchbook (I vary between papers, right now I am using a Zeta)

    2. Pad of Tomoe River Paper … I am working on my novel on this paper and I like to tape raw writing into my sketchbook … looking into drawing or painting over the writing which is a big thing I am exploring now.

    3. 24 pan Kremer Pigments tin with 31 colors shoved in there. It’s a bit much, but several of those are grays and neutrals I am experimenting with at the moment. My paints are mostly Daniel Smith, with a few DaVinci and M. Graham in the mix.

    4. Four Pentel Aquash brush pens. I have some nice brushes I would prefer to use but these are convenient

    5. I keep a pencil case full with a combination of colored pencils (for line work), watercolor pencils (line and wash … and experimenting with drawing with them in watercolor washes), Pitt Artist Pens (S nibs and a Black B nib), A Platinum Carbon Pen, Pilot Penmanship Pen with Noodler’s Lexington Gray, and a Pilot Metropolitan in Fine that I use for writing or if I want to draw with watersoluable ink.

    6. Faber Castell Tri Sharpener

    7. Faber Castell Kneaded Eraser

    8. MUJI Black eraser

    9. Koh-I-Noor Magic Pencil

    10. Uni Signo White Gel Pen

    11. Two small rags.

This all fits in a tote bag and goes with me everywhere.

I keep DS Carbazole Violet, Quin Violet and Shadow Violet on my palette.  I own Moonglow, Cobalt Violet, Amethyst Genuine, and Rose of Ultramarine, but I find them a bit twee for my style (although I will pull them out to play every so often). I just got Lunar Violet and Burnt Hematite Violet but haven’t played with them much. They are crazy granulators.

I keep some SuperFine Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pens in different colors as well as two fountain pens–a Pilot Penmanship with Noodler’s Lexington Gray and a Platinum Carbon Desk Pen with the Carbon ink cartridges. The Penmanship is VERY Fine, so perfect for hatching and Lex Gray is the only Noodler’s bulletproof ink that works well for me with watercolor.

I primarily use Daniel Smith.  There have been very few of their paints I have flat out hated. I also love their random granulation and separation properties and many of their convenience mixes do really fun things. I primarily work in a sketchbook these days, applying paint with a waterbrush, mixing on paper, so paints that do crazy things like that appeal to me.

That said, after DS, I have several paints by DaVinci on my palette. Pthalo Blue RS and Pthalo Turquoise tend to get a little bronzy in masstone, but it’s easy to work around that. I also have three M. Grahams on my palette (and a few stray colors here and there). I also own Sennelier, Winsor and Newton, QoR and one tube of Schmincke.  I love how wild and bright the QoR’s are and they are fun when working with lots of water. Sennelier and M. Graham make gorgeous paints, although the three M. Grahams I have on my palette (Indian Yellow, Cerulean, Neutral Tint) are incredibly tacky, esp. that Neutral Tint (which is a PV19/PG7 mix with no black … I love it!).
