Good advice, Sandra. I was told never to throw a painting out. If I can’t fix it or resolve my issue with it, I turn the paper over and reuse it. That being said, I have. That is why I concentrate on pet portraits. It gives me such joy to do a portrait and see the look on the face of the owner. These are all wonderful tips and I have used them myself. One thing I learned when I started taking watercolor classes is to under-paint. What that means is you lay in a light color to begin your painting….the violets, blues, yellow-orange depending on what you are painting. This is a photo of my son’s dog, Bear. It is his Christmas present. Bear crossed over the Rainbow Bridge several years ago. I only had a long distance fuzzy picture to work from so this was a difficult picture to do. He was thrilled with it which is the important thing. I had to use watercolor and colored pencils to get all of the variation…[Read more]

Thank you to all for your comments. Yes Pamela, I am so grateful that it all worked out and that I had a client who was not afraid to help fix the problem. Definitely one of those learning lessons.

I wasn’t sure where to post this so I thought I would post this here to start. I finished a commission piece recently and sent it through the Post Office in one of their tubes. My gut instinct was not to use the “Priority Mail” tubes but time was of the essence and I’m new to this area and didn’t know where to find a “more substantial” tube.…[Read more]

Another good one Charlie. I just want to grab that glass and take a big gulp! I would like to take a class on how to paint glass. It’s something I’ve tried several times and never been able to master. I know it has more to do with where the negative space is, but I just can’t get it.
