I swished a sky into this little village doodle from my sketchbook today, so thought I’d post it since skies are today’s theme. Hope you all are well.Dorf 2

I had been waiting on permission from the photographer who so patiently followed this marvelous and majestic Anna’s Hummingbird around his kingdom, and he very kindly agreed to let me use his amazing shots as a reference. (With thanks to Chuck Hardin.) I was thinking of lantana for the flowers, because hummingbirds find them tasty. A big bush of them grew outside the door of my grandparents’ house in Hawaii and the smell can still take me back to that favourite place. Regarding the grapefruit, I am mostly just glad I get to eat the model now after staring at it for so long. I remember first seeing grapefruit spoons at my husband’s grandparents’ house and thinking how neat they must be to have such perfectly specialized silverware. These days we often like our grapefruit sprinkled with a little brown sugar, but always cut each one open with a great hope that we’ll get one of those heavenly ones with enough full ripe sweetness to balance the tartness on its own. It’s a very suspenseful but rewarding fruit. Annas Hummingbird and LantanaGrapefruit with Brown SugarAmber Sudduth Bone posted an updateHere are the challenges for today and yesterday. I don’t have a story this time this time (thank goodness…? mice in macarons, eek…). I was just thinking about Jeanne Dobie’s book Making Color Sing and her idea about “mouse power” – that the colors would look nicer with gray to set them off. And I have also kind of always wanted macarons to be pillows. Mice and Macaroons
