Yes, it all helps. The technique feels like pressed flowers – I don’t know if you ever did that when you were a child? It worked with some flowers and others just kind of shrivelled into nothing.

Thanks, Lisa Ann. I did it so I could use it as a front of a birthday card for a friend. Hope she likes it, too!

Thanks, Yvonne, for the tip. I have signed up for some by Brent Eviston on Udemy, with a coupon each section is only 9.99 which is very reasonable. He teaches drawing from observation. From what I can gather Sandra Angelo teaches drawing from photographs which are two different skills I’m supposing. And then drawing better from the imagination…[Read more]

Learning, Yvonne. I am not good at drawing or colour.

It takes time and practice to grow those skills. Have you looked at Lindsay Weirich’s Drawing Class? It’s modestly priced and she was able to help me grow my drawing skills. I have taken all of her courses except her “Critique Club” and enjoy them very much.

Good idea , Yvonne. I found the page with the free lessons -you have to sign on to her mailing list to be able to down load them and it hasn’t responded to my request to sign up. I have watched a few of her videos on fb and she is heavily promoting her online course, and her students appear to get good results but most of the talking points are…[Read more]

Yes, quite a few teachers do that, don’t they. 😏 Hopefully your sign up request for the free classes will get processed soon and you can get a feel for the classes. Are you looking to learn to draw or polish your existing style?

Great way to show the prompt – my hands can get so dirty in the garden I am sometimes surprised something hasn’t taken root. 😉

Has anyone taken any of Sandra Angelo’s courses? If you have what did you think? (She has ones for learning to draw in a speed learning method she has been teaching for a long time.) Though they are pricey.

Hi Cynthia! I’m sorry for my delay. The holiday weekend was so hectic! I have not heard of her. I did look at her website and saw that she has free classes with a sign up process. Have you tried those to get a feel for her teaching methods?

Congratulations! Trying to make our own with what we have sounds like a good idea. I wonder if they use specially sized paper or not? I’d be tempted to test a few different ones – freezer paper and parchment, for example. I wonder if on wc paper they would just absorb in. Do they seem to be on watercolour paper?

I love how fluffy and silky you got your chicken to look! I’m still trying to figure out how to deal with fur and feathers. Mostly feathers. I love birds.
-
Thank you! You might want to check out some of the free tutorials from John Muir Laws. He explains feather groups, which can help you know how to deal with the placement and direction of feathers. https://johnmuirlaws.com/category/art-and-drawing/drawing-birds-art-and-drawing/
