Erin Huber posted an update in the group Beginners to WatercolourHi everyone! I have always been interested in art, specifically watercolor and acrylic paint, as well as ceramics, since high school. This piece is a cartoon eagle (unfinished) I made for my Grandma. I recently stumbled across the Doodlewash website and watercolor Facebook group when trying to find a discourse community for an English Project. I study at the University of Cincinnati, go Bearcats! For a part of my project, I need to conduct a survey, and I figure I would try to do it through this wonderful group. So, if you could take less than 5 minutes out of your day to answer 6 quick questions to help me collect some information (remains confidential), as well as pass it along to other art lovers, it would be appreciated. Thank you 🙂 Link provided: https://forms.gle/m2nMp2z2AuvsTphD7 eagle watercolor -

We learn by our mistakes so this was definitely a learning experience. Think I might try this again but with a slightly different approach. Tried to save that sky by rubbing out but the paper really wouldn’t allow for that. And, thinking ahead to where my shadows should go probably would be a good idea! LOL!

I always have problems working from my own photos. I can’t seem to impart the beautiful colors the masters use. I do studies to learn but have difficulty translating those into my own work. IMG_5538(Edited)

This is gorgeous! Try mixing some of your colors with PBK11 (Mars Black or Lunar Black). To see what I mean, check out my review here on the Paul Rubens Precipitating Color set. It makes me think of the Old Masters Palettes.

Hi Sandra! Thanks for guiding me to that review. I never would think of using Mars black , or any black for that matter. Your review and examples were enlightening. You are very proficient with watercolor. I can only hope to become more comfortable and expressive with my attempts at learning the medium. I also think that the watercolor sketchbook…[Read more]

I’ve tried a few studies over the last couple of weeks. Here’s one I did of Winslow Homer’s “Boy Fishing”.

Although I’ve worked in watercolor here and there over the years, I am certainly not proficient and would like get a better understanding of the medium and learn what it can do.
