Thank you so much for the mention! But oh Jessica, I will MISS your reviews! I like your very candid, honest voice. (When asked about MaimeriBlu watercolors – that I’ve never tried – I simple share your quote on those!) But totally understand and wish you the absolute best. It’s been a pleasure to watch your art and sketches evolve and grow also. I’ll still catch you around on IG, I’m sure. Happy painting!
-
Those MairmeriBlu still boggle me. Thank you so much for your kind and lovely comment Tonya!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thank you for all of your time, work and investment to complete these reviews, but most of all thank you for your perspective in art and life. All the best to you.

Thank you Krishna.

Yay, I hope you enjoy the dot card. On occasion people comment about the interest in tutorials. I always find this curious because I’ve never thought all that much about my artistic abilities and posting examples has always been the most difficult part of putting together a review. Most of the time I simply sit down and hope that somethings turns out! Thanks so much for all of your lovely comments over the lifetime of these reviews! <3

Thanks so much Linda!

Day 22 Simple Pleasures is listening to music…. and for me nowadays it is clicking on the icon on my various Apple devices, be it at home, in the car or the open air. Love the shuffle option when often a song plays that I have t heard for a while… and then moving on when I realise it’s not a favourite 😂
-
What’s your favorite song or genre, Val? 🙂 I like acoustic and sentimental music. Any tunes that are slow and inspirational. I also like classic songs. One of my favorite is Yellow from Cold Play. 🙂

thanks Sandra. I was just gonna email you! I mailed your package with all the paper samples in it. I’ve already started filling my palette with new paint! Hehehe. (shocker, right?) WOW! It literally jumps off the page!! Okay… you’ve officially made me HAVE to tried toned paper. This is fantastic!

well since you do love sketchbooks, so far I have to recommend Hahnemühle’s greybook. The paper is SO smooth. BUT if you really want to watercolor in it (not just watercolor pencils and a small brush to slightly wet the marks and smooth stuff) then you’ll have to go Strathmore new toned multimedia paper. It’s watercolor paper toned.…[Read more]

Awesome! Thanks for the link! Yeah I just really love Hahnemühle paper and the form factor of their sketchbooks…. hmmmm… I need to ask them about whether or not they might make something like this!

Oh my gosh it would be so fantastic if they made a journal or even individual sheets of watercolor toned paper! So far I’m in love with their greybook toned paper journal. It’s SOOOOOO smooth so one doesn’t spend time trying to fill all the tiny holes in the not so smooth paper. I did this one in Hahnemuhle greybook Stash Final

Thanks so much, Laura! 😃💕 I love what this place has become! Thanks so much for being a part of it!

What a wonderful painting of an item that was standard in my generation! The last time I enjoyed the mini jukebox was at The Diner in Los Gatos – one of papa and my favourite places to grab a brunch when we lived there. Happy memory! Thank you, once again, Charlie for letting your memories spark mine! ❤️

Aww my pleasure, Von! Thank you! 😃💕 I’m so happy these illustrations and stories bring back such good memories!

Aww thanks so much!! I truly appreciate hearing that!!😃💕

Thanks, Susan! Wasn’t it a blast!?! Loved those days!! 😃💕

LOL I remember flipping back and forth on the jukeboxes like maybe I missed a flap of songs 🙂 oh yeah the doodlewash community is cool for sure! Hey Charlie do you photograph or scan your posted doodlewashes?
-
hehe… yeah, those were the best memories!! 😃💕 And I scan all my doodlewashes…. photos just don’t retain the accurate color. Unless I’m traveling, then I have to resort to photos, but I prefer scans for accuracy all the way! 😉

Thanks Charlie!

Thanks so much, Shari! 😃💕 hehe… glad you liked this! Yeah.. I totally loved these things!!

I remember those little jukeboxes. So much fun and part of the outing for dinner.

Yeah, weren’t they awesome!! I really loved these things!! 😃💕 hehe

Aaaaand now I’m tempted to make some kind of Spotify channel for watercolorists.

Thank you for the excellent tips! I love your atmospheric colors and loose style!
-
Wonderful suggestions!! Thank you!
-
your work has improved 100%. Good luck at your next venture into oil paints, but always keep exploring watercolors.
-
Thanks for sharing your watercolor journey. I like your tips and also believe you need to play with the paints as they help you relax and enjoy the process. Have fun!
-
I so enjoyed seeing your work but even more so, learning your process. Thank you for sharing both!
-
Your paintings are lovely and loose, I particularly admire the way you’ve painted water in the last photo. Thank you for sharing the way you choose your colours and sketching tips 🙂
-
Wonderful capture of light and merging of colors! Congrats on being featured! <3
-
I love your advice about starting out with a limited palette and wish I’d found it before I dove in a few years ago. (I thought I needed All The Colors, which probably made learning much harder since I had to navigate not only the ins and outs of watercolor in general, but the properties of each of the paints, too. Ah, hindsight. It is 20/20.)
(To be fair, too, I still have the ALL THE PAINTS urge. It may just be inherent in my character. :D)
Love your work!
-
I began with oils, then went to watercolours. You’re doing the opposite. You’ll notice a big difference in the handling of the paint, but what fun you’ll have in Florence! Thanks for sharing your story.
-
some really great advice here, thanks!
-
Great tips! I need a note on my sketchbook to remind myself to observe larger shapes before I start drawing all the details, lol.

A blank paper or canvas is an opportunity to create something new. But sometimes we overthink on what to draw or paint. A great inspiration is to paint the background first. In my latest online class, Loosen Up Your Watercolor Painting, we will talk about ways on how to paint interesting backgrounds.
