A blank paper or canvas is an opportunity to create something new. But sometimes we overthink on what to draw or paint. A great inspiration is to paint the background first. In my latest online class, Loosen Up Your Watercolor Painting, we will talk about ways on how to paint interesting backgrounds.

For our prompt of “Birds” today, I decided to sketch these three French hens. The song Twelve Days of Christmas was playing at my mother’s house and so the phrase stuck in my head. These are actually a special
It took me a little while to get through this ramble, but that’s because I had to leave midway and go out to Amazon to order those mini- Rock’em Sock’em robots for hubby’s Christmas stocking. See what you get me into to? I love your hens – I can see them strutting around the barnyard, gossiping “Cotcotcodet”!
I love these ladies! I have a thing for chickens. Joe won’t let me have any though. He’s pretty sure that he would end up taking care of them in bad weather when I didn’t want to go outside. He has a point. Lol!
Alrighty, now I will have dancing chickens in my head, being directed by a rather large elf! (or is it “Elf”) Everything is so sounding so fun! I wonder what my mother in law would think if I started drawing on her table cloth. Bahawahaha!
Haha wow, what a crew! They have attitude, which hens most definitely do! My mother used to knit hen jumpers for a rescue centre so I can quite believe the garb, too. Oh, and dishelleveled vacation look all the way – rock a Christmas beard 😉
hehe! Thanks, Jacob! 😃💕 Oh wow! Cool they your mom made hen jumpers! As for the Christmas beard… it’s a bit too Christmas these days and grows in too white. Not white enough to be Santa, so it’s just a big mess really. lol
One of my favorite bits about this time of year is that everything is just a little bit extra. That mug of “Chocolate,” our prompt today, becomes so inviting that you want to just dive in! So, I decided to sketch
You have me laughing with the image of two Charlies, sitting with mouth full and a ‘Me?!!!” look on their face! I love your painting but have to admit, I prefer my hot chocolate served without a hamster in it.
An interesting thing has happened. One of my medications has taken away my craving for sweets. Weird but true. I can leave a box of chocolates alone without a problem. They just don’t taste good to me! Now I’m craving fruity stuff like popsicles. Much more figure friendly. I did have some birthday cake yesterday though, and that was pretty good. Maybe the side effects are going away.
After a two-week break in Kenya which was wonderful, but the rainy season came early, which meant the animals were a little more difficult to find, the flowers and bushes bursting into bloom made all safaris a joy to behold. The river bursting the bank went from little trickles to torrential torrents flooding all low laying areas , …[Read more]
The brown labrador retriever color is known as ‘liver’ in some countries and ‘chocolate’ in others. That seems strange to me, because I would never confuse liver and chocolate! The holiday season wouldn’t be complete without family and that certainly includes beloved “Pets,” our prompt for today. While staying at my mother’s house, my niece dropped by last night with her little dog,
I love reading your holiday travels and restaurant reviews, Charlie. It all seems so nostalgic and familiar, such as the waitress at the Greek restaurant. (and that it’s still open each year you visit!). Are you and Philippe going to Paris also? It You should have a book devoted entirely to the animals you encounter. Could be your 3rd book? And it wasn’t entirely clear to me but does Cooper’s mom train dogs or Philippe’s? Always love the furry friend stories! For some reason, our sweet red tabby gets even sweeter during December. Hard to resist the incessant crawling paws at 3 a.m. by our Buster. I am happy to learn that there are some genuine family places to visit that know how special those bonds are, especially at Christmas. Have a wonderful time realizing you’re experiencing family time that’s only written about in Hallmark movies. What a lovely way to spend Christmas, Charlie. Merry Christmas to you, Philippe, and respective families! 🙂
Thanks so much, Fanna! 😃💕 Philippe and I will be heading to Paris again next year, but looks like it will be autumn instead this time. And a book of animals would be fun! So sweet to hear about your red tabby getting extra cuddly. Even, our fussy Phineas, gets a bit cuddlier this time of year! We’re having a beautiful time with family!
If Cooper is half as adorable in real life as he is in your painting, he’s the cutest dog in the State of Texas (he couldn’t compare in Missouri of course, because Phineas has the crown). I hope you get the chance to meet all your usual friends and maybe meet a few other new ones along the way – especially if they are as cute as Cooper.
All three of Joe’s sisters came to visit today and they brought carryout Thai food for dinner so that was a treat! They also came with early birthday cake and ice cream for me, so everything was perfect. I passed on some paintings so my stack is getting a bit smaller. Time to log some more brush miles because you never know when you are going to need a gift.
