Annisette, thank you for sharing your images, and a little of the story on how you paint them. I was especially intrigued when you said you build up slowly and spend a lot of time on the light values before moving on to mediums and darks. That must be why your images are so glowing.

You are truly fortunate that you never broke a bone during a wild leap off the swing. But seeing the joyful expression on your cat’s face sorta explains why you did it.

I really like the way you handled color and light in the votive candle. I also admire your use of white space. Somehow I have trouble reserving enough white spaces in my paintings.

I was surprised that you wrote the book in rhyme. But in the end, it was the rhyming narrative that made your story soothing bedtime reading.

By the way, my 3 year old granddaughter adores “One Little Mouse.” The week I gave it to her, she asked me to read it (and draw in the pictures) at least three times.

I liked that you painted the doggie at your feet. And the red sneakers are eye-catching!

Laura Riley commented on the post, The Element Of Surprise 10 months, 2 weeks ago
The bunny in the jack in the box was a happy surprise! I once visited the KC zoo. It was the week-end of the total eclipse and hot as blazes. Most of the large mammals were sheltering inside, so that was a disappointment. But the zoo itself was impressive.

I’m delighted to see your first book. It’s perfect for my granddaughter, although at 2 years old, she is a little too young to draw stuff. Congratulations. I hope you sell thousands of them.
