Magenta flowers were everywhere-- perfect exhibits for "Janet's Violet Rose," a beautiful paint from American Journey (Cheap Joe's). How could I resist it, when purple is one of my favorite colors!? This is one of several studies of this scene from the Yaquina Head Lighthouse, with Day 12 "Blossoming" in mind.20190713_093706

The Day 10 prompt was "ocean creatures" and lucky me, I was at the beach! The creatures we saw were the sea birds, flying high against a cloudy sky.20190713_093714

The prompt for Day 7 was Shiny Things. At this time of the year its the sunshine-y places that inspire me. This watercolor sketch is from a shiny day at Grand Lake, Colorado. WW Month Day 8

Another Day 5 Loose & Free river! WW19_Day5b

"Loose and free" sounds like a Colorado theme! Our streams and rivers are the result of snow pack cutting loose-- they freely rush over rocks to make a dramatic and beautiful flow. I tried to represent a fast and free river in these two Day 5 contributions. WW19_Day5

This is Day 4, take 2. The previous scan was very light, so I added a few more accents and tried again! WW19_Day4b

The prompt was "family fun" and for my family, painting together is great fun. This patio painting includes painted rice paper with torn edges, pasted in layers, to represent tall leaves that surrounded the single rose. Textures are not entirely obvious in this picture. WW19_Day4

A little play on words with the prompt, "picnic food." I am a big fan of picnics, which means I think we should protect our natural world. WW Month 19_Day 3

The Colorado sun has been hiding behind gray clouds in some unusual weather patterns this year. I tried to represent the sun on the leaves to celebrate a beautiful day on the patio! WW19_Day2

Hello World Watercolor Month fans! I look forward to seeing your paintings and sharing mine this July. I took some creative liberty with the Day 1 prompt. Enjoy! WW19_Day1

Not a very exotic location-- on my patio. There were no clouds in the blue Colorado sky, no rainy days. Too colorful for monochromatic... So I was "prompted" to try to improve perspective, and get some sense of sunlight and shadow. #WorldWatercolorMonth IMG_1291exotic

I haven't tried a lot of urban sketching...but for the city life prompt I pulled out a picture from London. My B & B was on Gower Street in Bloomsbury. While there, I read a book about Virginia Woolf's years in that very same neighborhood. “Lock up your libraries if you like; but there is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind.” ― Virginia Woolf, A Room of One's Own #WorldWaterColorMonthIMG_1281

In February we went to Kauai, and I painted postcards of the ocean. In Colorado, we have lakes, streams, and rivers-- not the beach exactly! Here I am playing with a very cool refillable Japanese brush pen from JetPens. #WorldWatercolorMonth IMG_126020180225_132848_Burst01

I tried the fast and loose approach in a beautiful scene on Lake Granby, in the Rock Mountains! SO dry in the mountains, its hard to do wet on wet. The wet is dry before you can do the next step! But no complaints...happy to be here. 20180714164319_IMG_1230
