For our prompt of “Leaves” today, I felt like sketching some of the tropical variety and added a wrinkled hornbill because I had yet to ever sketch one. Yes, like so many of the planet’s interesting creatures,
For this prompt I’ve drawn a leafcutter ant. The ants don’t actually eat the leaves but take them to the nest where they make a sort of compost heap. They harvest the fungus that grows on the decaying leaves.
Day 20 Leaves.
Leaves of Living Stone – Lithiops are a succulent plant with leaves that look like pebbles, camouflage so that animals won’t eat them during the droughts of Southern Africa. I’m in the middle of a family reunion, so I won’t be online often through the next week. #Hahnemühle_USA #ZebraPen_USA #ZebraAmbassador Leaves of Living Stone-Zebra Ze…[Read more]

For our prompt of “Music” today, I thought back to going to diners when I was a kid and enjoying that most amazing invention called a jukebox. This is a sketch of a Wurlitzer that took the world by storm in late
Beautiful painting of the jukebox! I sometimes watch YouTube for recordings of live concerts from the 60s and 70s. Not only is the music great, but my favorite artists look exactly as they are preserved in my memory – young!
Wonderful memory and jukebox! I remember eating at a diner that had a mini jukebox at each table. If I remember correctly there was a line of booths along the wall and a long counter running down the middle with the kitchen behind that. Seems like it was a big Airstream shaped diner….good memories!
I had to laugh. My boss and I were just talking about jukeboxes. In our case, it started out with me telling her to throw some jute in the “jutebox”. Which started us giggling and discussing jukeboxes. Lol I always loved the colorful lights on them. You did well on yours capturing them! Also, when you go to the DCA ( Calif. Adventure), be sure to be in it before dusk. They play Sh-Boom every night when they roll on all the neon lights. You would love it!
When I saw the prompt I knew it had to be something to do with Led Zeppelin. I’ve been a fan since my early teens. I was lucky enough to see them live at Earl’s Court in London when I was 16. I’ve chosen the runes that are associated with their 4th album. Each member of the band has his own rune.

For our prompt of “Bubbles” today, it made me think of being a kid again and how much fun it was to chase after soap bubbles and pop them. In truth, even as an adult, I would run around in circles popping bubbles
Fantastic Charlie! Getting outside our safe bubble can be difficult. I’m finding that it gets easier the older we get. Maybe life experiences teaches us that it all will be ok so we might as well embrace it all and have fun.
I’m here to burst your bubble. You need to add another Facebook site. World Watercolor Group for Beginners. So many people feel too untalented to post with the excellent people who are in the regular group. Ask around, and see if I’m wrong. Or maybe your Sketching Stuff site does enough, but I know when I first found WWG, the other members were so good, I was terrified to post my junkie tries.
Yep! To be honest, World Watercolor Group on Facebook ended up with a ton of masters. 😉 So yeah, my Sketching Stuff Group is the quite different. First, it’s a closed group, and much more focused on people started out. It’s actually medium agnostic as well though. So all types of mediums are welcome. 😉
Mireya is undoubtedly correct, but I think most newbies aren’t there yet. OtOH, Charlie, I do think the sketching group might be the beginner’s ticket to building confidence and skills. And btw, I love seeing the masterful work in WWG.
Yeah, it’s always a dance! Everyone should post with confidence, because there’s always someone who will love it! I bow to the masters as well… I’m not there yet and don’t know if I’ll ever be, but I adore showing what I make anyway! It’s that little kid inside! 😉
Hmmm….I wonder what a hummingbird would do if he came across bubbles.?? Beautiful colors. I am one of those you encourage everyday and I appreciate it! Now if you could post my pics for me everyday. Lol
