Hi, everyone…
This is driving me nuts, so I am pleading for help. I’m getting these bleeding edges on my paintings and I need to know why.
Here’s what I’ve done to get to this point…
- Arches 140# cold press paper
- Drew a pencil line drawing on the paper
- Wet the paper and stretched it on gator board
- Masked the foreground image area…

Thanks, JA! Lifting is probably what I need to do, but I believe I was thinking about a technique using clear water but was remembering it backwards. The technique I believe, uses clear water to move color to the edge, rather than lightening the edge. So… back to the drawing board. Thanks again.

Thank you so much, Sandra! Yes, those techniques sound like they will work the best. As I think about it, I may be remembering a technique using water, but it pushes the color to the edge, rather than exposing a white edge. I need to get my watercolor brain back. Thanks again!

Do you mean lifting? Using a damp brush to lift color away from a dry edge. I like a small flat for this.
