Hi there! My name is Evgenia, I am 35 years old and I am a professional watercolor artist and a teacher based in Belgium. As a child I always loved to draw, to paint and to color. It was the happiest moment of my
We’ve reached the beginning of a new month and that means the start of another Doodlewash art challenge! For our first prompt of “Snail” I did a little sketch of one finding a spring leaf, just for a little pop of
Charlie we have that weather prediction here in BC Canada too — up and down and lots of rain which is great since we had drought conditions and fire season is coming. Last year when it reached 47C (116.6F) we lost an entire town.
And what is this nonsense about Phineas being more popular than you? Not! He was popular and his stories will be missed but you are here and we love you.
Enjoy the strange spring and thank God it isn’t winter.
Thanks so much, Linda! 😃💕 You’re too sweet! The weather is definitely getting weirder these days. I’m trying not to get too used to the spring days this week… hehe… but oh, I’m so ready for the actual end of winter!
Very cute! We’ve gone straight into Summer…bypass Winter and Spring…temps will be in mid 80’s this week. A few more weeks of cooler weather would have been nice but on the bright side, our oak trees are showing those beautiful spring green buds and I’m hearing more birdsong; and, the sun is shining.
Charlie you have the most hopeful heart of anyone! So you just make a million plans and you can cherry pick later, it can be all about joy! Have fun and enjoy this particular season. I’m currently in a beautiful snowy (but not snowing) locale and back home it’s going to be 80s-90s this week!
Aww thank you so much! 😃💕 I never lose hope! And it’s just super fun to dream up big plans. I figure if a few happen, all the better. But dreaming is always the most important bit. Oh wow… snowy to warm will be quite a transition!
Excellent! I think this year is going to be the one for you. And, I think Gordo is whispering in your ear to, “go for it!” if you listen. And you’re not hardened at all… still sweet… and simply prepared and ready! It’s time for that new leaf for sure! Much love! 😃💕
Aww thanks so much, Louise! 😃💕 Yeah, I think I’m still searching for my true niche as well. And, for me at least, it’s likely going to be always changing a bit. I’d get too much to niche too much! hehe I’m starting up something more around the bigger concept of “creativity” this month with my next book (and what I hope to be starting at sketchingstuff.com next). Trying to take everything I’ve loved along the way and add the other bits of my life that I’ve yet to even share. It’s going to be a fun ride!
Thanks so much, Mugdha! 😃💕 hehe… a snail adoption sounds cute, but I’d struggle with any pet I could really hug. I’m a hugger! lol And, I’ve got a new book coming out and the Sketchbook Revival workshop this month, so it should be a fun one. Though, yes, I DO want a puppy for my birthday. 😉 Much love!
The world lost a special little light this week as we had to bid farewell to one very unique basenji dog named Phineas. Our happy little trio has become a duo for now. It’s never easy to say goodbye to a furry
I know exactly how you feel. And I’m not being trite. I mean exactly.
My Ramses was diagnosed with among other ailments, cancer. He had lost his appetite a bit but his pain was managed with meds. He had a great Thanksgiving Eve with my parents and their dog, having a walk in the neighborhood. He was almost his old self, bouncing around. But on Thanksgiving day I could tell he wasn’t feeling himself. I did make the decision to take him to the vet that Saturday but being the gentleman that he always was, he relieved me of that final act by passing away that night, lying next to me in the bed.
The silence in the house was deafening. I had intended to wait perhaps six months before getting a new dog. I was going to take a road trip up the coast to stop at scenic spots and do some plein air. But after two weeks I couldn’t take the silence any more. The house was empty. Too empty. I started looking and brought Diana pawPrints home on December 22.
Dogs do for us their entire lives. I believe they would think they had not done their jobs right if we never got another dog. They don’t want us to live in silence and solitude, mourning for them and enshrining their collars and dog bowl. If they’ve done their job, we would want to get another dog when the time is right. I waited three months after Caesar passed. I waited 2 weeks after Ramses passed. After 25 years of living with a dog, I found I couldn’t not live with one.
I have two now. Freyja Grey came to us from death row in Hesperia, CA. Once she settled she has been wonderful. She is a happy girl, olympic kisser and will likely outlive Diana at half her weight. I’ve already been pondering what I will do at likely around age 80 when I am dogless again. Will I be able to take on a puppy? Will I be able to stand the heartbreak of saying goodbye to a series of senior dogs every few years? I’m not sure what I will do.
But I know exactly how you feel. What you do will be up to you.
My sincere condolences on your loss. Phineas was a wonderful dog and he had the best life. I’m sure he would be overjoyed to know that because he was such a good dog, you will be giving the best life to another dog.
Everyone thinks their dog is the best dog in the world. And no one is wrong.
Thank you so much for your kind words💕 Yes, our dogs are always the best. And I’m so sorry to hear about Ramses, but happy to know you’ve got two more furry companions. I think about the same things as I get older, but then I remember that for the dogs we save, it’s the fullest and best life ever. And, for me, that’s a gift that’s worth any measure of grief in the end.
Oh, Charlie, I am so very sorry for your and Philippe’s loss. I have enjoyed your stories and doodlewashes of Phineas over the years, as, I’m sure, have many of your fans. His passing leaves a hole in all our hearts. Love and hugs to you and P. ❤️❤️
I’m so sorry to hear of your loss, Charlie. Our furbabies have such short lives, yet manage to enrich our so much. You say it was hard to find the words, but you expressed the feeling of loss and of remembrance very well. Phineas touched your hearts, and through you, the hearts of many others. We’ll all miss him.
Yes, I remember those feelings after our 18 year old dog died too. It’s a tough time. We decided not to get another so that we could be free to travel more easily. Now though, some years on, one of our daughter’s got a puppy who is on “loan to us” three days a week. I miss him when he’s not here instead now! Sending some love your way.
Holding you and Phillipe in my heart. Phineas WAS famous and those of us who have known him through Doodlewash loved him and will miss him too. I understand the sadness you’re experiencing and also want to thank you for sharing Phineas with us all this time. 🧡
Thanks so much, Mary 💕 Getting back to these comments. Phineas WAS famous, right? That what he always thought! 😉 We’ll definitely miss him, but he’s still in our hearts and even our minds, telling us what he thinks about everything.
Charlie, see my letter in your inbox. This is so sad and you did suggest at one time that he would not be with you much longer. Yes he will keep watch and make sure you don’t do anything he doesn’t like. Hugs.
Charlie, my heart sank when I saw the title of your email in my list, Phineas has left us. We can say soothing things for the loss of such a friend, but your pain will be so deep that no one else can fathom it. So many of us have lost little friends and we can share in some of your hurt. Thanks for the stories of him and his friends, the warm feelings that he gave us. Blessings on you and Philippe, and on the sweet memories of Phineas.
Thanks so much, Bob💕 After all of the Phineas posts over the years, this was the one I wish I never had to make. But, I’m so happy to have captured his stories and been able to share them. Those sweet memories will live on and on!
I am so so very sorry…. there are no good words for how it feels to lose a beloved pet who is really a member of your family. I know you have amazing memories of him, but it doesn’t take away the missing of a warm, furry, body and unique personality. Prayers and hugs for you both.
As I sit here crying buckets for you and Philippe, I think of how happy Phineas made all of us and he will indeed be with everyone forever. But that doesn’t really help you now – I wish I could tell you that pain goes away. It doesn’t but it does soften and change. At times you will see him out of the corner of your eye and eventually that will bring a smile to your hearts and comfort too because it will feel like he is still watching out for the two of you. I think you made the right decision to keep that last part private. That time belonged to the three of you alone! I rejoice that he had such a pleasant leaving, because he is not gone – just on another journey.
Sending long-distance hugs to you and Phillippe for the passing of your beloved Phineas. May you be comforted by wonderful memories and knowing that you gave him a joyous life in your loving company.❤️
Oh Charlie and Philippe, my profoundest 😔 with you both right now and prayers for peace and consolation from a loving Creator to two amazing pup parents. The silence is stark but it’s good healing to rest in, nothing sounds (or snores😉) quite like a Phineas. All our love from the Nellie house🤗🤗
This is gutting. I’m quite sure that Phineas was something of a celebrity anyway, but he reached a new level of stardom with his always entertaining appearances here, even gracing us with his presence once or . Who could forget that masterful self portrait? How lovely that you’ll have all of these to treasure in years to come, alongside countless other memories I’m sure. Like many others, I will miss him. Thinking of you both. <3
Thank you so much, Jacob 💕 I’m wildly behind on replying to comments on this post. It was so sad to lose Phineas, though like everything he did, he left on his own terms. And yes… the self-portrait! We still have the original and I told Philippe we should hang it. I’m so thrilled that you got to know him here. I’d love to say I embellished things, but I think I actually just left a lot of the full antics out. Much love, my friend!
I felt your pain and your struggle to find words to bid farewell to Phineas, knowing all too well there are no words expressive enough to convey the depth of your feelings for him. May your memories of him bring you both peace and comfort.
Thank you so much, Shari 💕 I’m delayed in responded to these comments, but wanted to get back to them. I’m so thrilled you got to know Phineas. He was fun to hang out with. I’ll miss him dearly, but glad I could capture a bit of his antics here to remember for years to come!
Marisela, thank you so much💕 I’m replying to your comment here a bit late, but we already chatted in email. I appreciate your kinds words and so happy to got to learn about Phineas. And that dialogue between Monster and Phineas made me smile through the tears. Thank you so much for that. Much love.
aww thanks Charlie — I am trying to put up a web site and am sick and tired of the mind boggling stupidity and freaking out every five minutes for a week. When I did I went with Word Press (awesome awesome awesome and the very best Happiness Engineers ever) and it automatically opened my account with Doodlewash. I think. I don’t understand this left brain idiotic technology stuff. I am losing brain cells here.
For our prompt of “Sushi” today, I figured a little cat might enjoy some the most. Philippe and I actually had some Sushi last night. We don’t really go out to fancy restaurants, so our sushi typically comes from
Oh boy, that sushi looks good enough to eat. Better not save it fo tomorrow, though, unless you use it as bait when you go fishing! The kitty looks hungry enough to finish the whole tray. And that use of your phone calendar is so Charlie; why make a call when you can use it for an alarm clock? Love it!
Thanks so much, Bob! 😃💕 hehe… yeah… my phone app doesn’t get used much, but my calendar talks to me all the time. And yes, sushi is only good rather immediately… it would definitely be fish bait if left unattended for too long!
Thanks so much, Marisela! 😃💕 You should totally give sushi another try. I love the wasabi with it as I like the burst of hot flavor. And, aww I’m so happy you got to go out and have your chicken fried steak. Gotta love the name of that place as well! hehe As for an emoji… when I pig out on something good, I just use the little pig one. It’s so cute!! lol And I think we all deserve to indulge and pig out on our favorite food every now and again (tomorrow is pizza night here! Yay!). It’s good for the soul! Much love to you!
Thanks, Mugdha! 😃💕 hehe… yeah… as long as they’re all nice dreams, you’re totally fine. My curiosity is just so strong that I have to pursue things just to find out what they might turn out like. Sometimes it’s not super awesome, but other times it’s super cool. It’s always worth finding out which! 😉 As for sushi, I used to get avocado rolls a lot. Honestly, with a little soy and wasabi, my palette isn’t refined enough to pick out the fish sometimes anyway! lol Hugs to you!
For our prompt of “Flamingo” today, I made a little sketch of a flamingo standing on one leg. I’ve always loved this particular bird and find them so elegantly beautiful. I lack this level of poise and grace and
Did you know that ALL yellow, orange and red birds owe their color to the food they eat? It comes from carotenoids in the food. It can work on people, too. I had a co-worker whose 3 year old turned orange. The mother was in a panic, thinking her kid had some horrible disease, and was shocked to learn it was from all those healthy carrots she was eating.
Thanks so much, Marisela! 😃💕 hehe… I totally thought about Violet Beauregard when I was writing that. Love that book and movie! hehe Here’s to wishing you a place of your own to do all of the mundane things you adore most! And I’m jealous of that weather… sounds perfectly wonderful. Hope you have a fabulous week my friend! Much love! 😃💕
Our prompt of “Tiger” today, marks the start of a brand new Doodlewash monthly challenge as well as the beginning of the Lunar New Year and the Chinese New Year! It’s also the Year of the Tiger, which is
I’m married to a potter and 3-D is much more his gig than mine😆 I sent you a post from #oldforgecreations because he deserves credit for this quote, “hoping your New Year of the Tiger is more Hobbes than Shere Kahn!” 😆 Charlie you are definitely more Hobbes or T-I-double-ger! Go forth bouncily and have fun!🤗
Thanks so much! 😃💕 Aww that’s a great quote! Yeah, Philippe does 3D computer graphics so he initially took to the pen much more easily. But, in the end, I was the only one crazy enough to actually keep trying to DO it! hehe
I have one of these pens somewhere. I just found it too painful to use I did discover that if you start with a layer done flat on paper and then build from that it was a little easier to get started. I’ve seen some truly amazing things done with these, so I know you’ll be creating incredible 3D works.
Thanks, Sandra! 😃💕 Well see… it was pretty painful and just made me want to draw and color something the usual way! lol But yes! I almost included that bit about the flat start… I did create the initial tops of the tree shapes on a flat surface and connected them and built it up from there. Sort of like LEGOs. I doubt I’ll ever have the patience to perfect good technique, but it was super fun to play with!
Thanks so much, Marisela! 😃💕 And yes, this is the year to take those leaps and jump out of the dumps! I have to admit to lacking courage to try things I’ve only dreamed of doing, but this year I hope to make at least some of those things actually happen. And, truly… our Inner Child really is a bad ass! lol When we ignore our adult critic, we’re always ready to climb Everest!
Thanks so much, Mugdha! 😃💕 ooooo that’s so cool that you saw that in the trees! After seeing your awesome tiger photos, I had a jungle mindset, even if I wasn’t looking at one when I made this! Let’s hope this one is free of parasites!! lol It was fun to do this… and I hope to try it again soon. For best results, I think it takes planning, which is NOT my thing at all! hehe… I just like to play!! Much love to you!
Thanks so much! 😃💕 hehe… actually, I wish I had a proper workspace. I’m still at the edge of my kitchen counter until Philippe kicks me out to make dinner! lol But one day, I’ll have a proper desk and I’ll make sure Little Charlie is there to remind me to always be courageous!
For our prompt of “Yeti” today, my first thought was that this is actually something I’ve never sketched before! I’ve sketched so many things over these past few years that it’s always fun to come across a prompt
Our weather is warming up, too – we’re in the high 40’s though it feels much colder with the wind. The nice thing though is that we had bright, sunshine! So unusual for us this time of year. It’s lucky too, because I’ve been helping a family member move. So much easier when it’s dry and brisk.
Yay for sunshine!! That always makes me feel better about the cold. Though we had the same thing on a walk… first we said, “Oh, it’s not too cold out today”… and then the wind whipped through us as if to slap us back to our senses! lol 😉
How delightfully weird, but cute… a bit like me, really 😉 It hasn’t been very cold here, so far at least. Between Christmas and New Year it was hitting 15-16 C locally which was beyond unseasonably warm.
Lol! Awww… yes, I would definitely say that you’re delightfully weird, but cute my friend! 😃💕 Yeah, the weather here keeps jumping up and down. It’s jumping to 15 on Monday before moving back to -4 and snowing right after. At least, that’s what they say right now… we’ll see what weirdness actually happens! lol
Thanks so much, Marisela! 😃💕 yeah, I always have a positive attitude… it just makes life more enjoyable and me more creative! hehe And I think Big Foot and yetis are along the lines of unicorns. We’ve made them almost “real” in our minds! Have a fabulous weekend!
For our prompt of “Rose” today, I ended up with this little sketch of a kitten offering one to you! It’s also my way of saying thank you for viewing my posts and reading my little rambles. I’m only showing up
You have been one busy guy!!! All of these projects sound so wonder…YAY to ICAF…something close to my heart. Can’t wait for Sketchbook Revival and yay that you are going participate this year! You have truly been working on some wonderful and exciting projects. You’re an inspiration, Charlie!!!
Aww thanks so much, Mary! 😃💕 It’s been a crazy few months, but I figured I should let folks know why I can only show up weekly here now. I’m excited for everything that’s ahead… it’s going to be super fun!
Aaaw Charlie, thank you so much 🙂 That is so sweet – I love your ramblings just as much as I love your art. I love how you share what you are doing or have been doing and taking us through bits and pieces of your life with Philippe and Phineas 🙂 Thank you for all the joy 🙂
Aww thanks so much, Mugdha! 😃💕 Well… Philippe is still here, so I must be a little fun and not totally crazy to live with! lol I’m super excited for what’s ahead… a bit different path, but still all the same sort of silly fun! And I’d love to receive a painting from you… I shall be awaiting one in my inbox! hehe Hugs to you, my friend!
Muchas gracias, mi amiga! 😃💕 I’m glad you’re enjoying the crazy ride. I honestly don’t know exactly what I’ll be announcing even a month from now, but that’s a bit of what I know is happening. I just love to say “Yes, please!” to life and then see where it takes me. It’s a fun way to live! Hugs to you!!
Merci beaucoup, Cathy et bonne année! 😃💕 I truly couldn’t change if I tried! hehe… But there are some new things coming that I hope will inspire people to be more creative and have a lot more fun. I’m excited for what’s next!
For our prompt of “Kite” today, I ended up with this quick little doodle of a beagle attempting to fly one. Though we’ve had some windy days here, you won’t likely find me outside flying a kite. The temperatures
It is difficult to stay motivated during the dark and gloomy days. Today was one of those days, but I did a demo workshop on my ‘loose and lovely’ style for some painting friends and that was energizing. I just hope I can keep that going this evening!
Yay! Glad you found something energizing to DO! 😃💕That sounds fun! And yeah, I keep going in spurts of inspiration, but thankfully I have a few deadlines approaching that are also, in their own scary way, a bit inspiring! lol
Thanks so much, Mary! 😃💕 Yes indeed! It’s been a fun time, and I’m not beating myself up to much about taking WAY longer to get things done than usual. hehe… Sometimes a bit of rest is the best cure for creativity!
Thanks so much, Jacquie! 😃💕 And I’m so thrilled you find my doodles inspiring! I know what you mean… it’s challenging to stay motivated when the world gets so crazy. But, it’s also the perfect time to do something creative and crazy as well! I figure anytime there’s less “fun” in the world, then it’s up to us to put that back into the world again! 😉
Thanks so much, Marisela! 😃💕 Our little furry friends never really leave our side… they’re always in our hearts and imaginations! And imagination is a wonderful way to experience new things… even if they don’t happen yet… it can have the same effect on our hearts and souls to simply imagine things! My daydreaming has gone into overdrive, but thankfully, I’ve gotten a few great ideas that I can actually use in real life along the way! hehe Warm hugs to you, my friend!
The “P” is Patricia and the “M” is Mariah, and together we are P.M. artist Studio in Sachse, Texas! So let us tell you a bit about ourselves and our background. Patricia is a retired art teacher with both an
Patricia and Mariah, your art is so beautiful. It’s wonderful that you’ve shared your techniques and expression with others. I can tell just by watching the video that you’ve unleashed the creative in many!
I’m late reading this but when my two year old granddaughter was here over Christmas we spent an afternoon painting with watercolour. She made puddles of colour and after she left I took one of her pieces and I added marks with inks. I’ve signed both our names to the piece. I’ll post it into my gallery here on Doodlewash.
I hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful New Year so far! For our prompt of “Diamond” today, I ended up with a little kitten happening upon what must be the world’s largest diamond. While I always hate to see the
Thanks so much, Jacob! 😀💕 hehe…. yeah, we’ll see on the pen… I told Philippe he has to be present when I try it for adult supervision. lol I’m just hoping I don’t end up burning myself or the house down with it!
Glad to hear that your new year is off to a good beginning and looking forward to seeing what you will be up to the rest of the year. That cute little cat is going to have fun batting that big old diamond around and have fun chasing the sparkles!! Your new pen sounds very intriguing!!!
It is funny how we perceive things as starting anew because we’ve assigned a new year number to our calendar. Humans are strange! I had one of those 3D pens, though a different brand. I didn’t use it much because you had to really work hard to hold down the button that allowed the plastic to flow, and it was painful after a while. You’ll have to let me know if this brand makes it easier, cause it is cool.
It is odd that the arbitrary calendar date makes the year new! Spring is even more inspiring as the winter cold ends. I’ll let you know on the pen… it’s just a bit of play, but I won’t be able to test it out for another week or so! 😉
Thanks so much, Marisela! 😀💕 Yeah… it’s super cold here! I’m sure my first creations with the pen will just be big messes, but those are fun to make too! So happy you had a great start to the year my friend by feeling great! You deserve it!! ❤️
Thanks so much, Mugdha! 😀💕 ooooo a squirrel chandelier sounds awesome! Love it! And yes, I’m super excited for the year ahead. Lots of new projects on the horizon, along with a magic pen… what could be better? hehe I hope all of your dreams come true this year, my friend! ❤️
Hi Charlie! I can’t wait to see what you do with the 3D do-dad when you get to try it. You know what/who I count as diamonds? All the artists I’ve connected with on WP, which snowballed to IG, all because of a comment you left on my WP way back when! Even though my painting time is a bit limited right now because of spending 2-3 days a week with my new grandson (he’s the best!), I keep up with everyone on IG, and I can’t imagine my art journey without you and them! Thanks for that, Charlie. You are truly a sparkling presence in the lives of many! I’m “off” tomorrow and can’t wait to splash around some paint! 💖🥰 🎨
Aww that makes me SO happy to hear Carol! Yay! 😃💕 It’s been so wonderful to connect and stay connected over the years. Thank you for your sweet words! I’ve got so many creative projects going at once lately, it’s been a bit crazy… but crazy and creative are two of my favorite ways to live! lol Have fun splashing around that paint my friend!!
For our prompt of “Arctic Fox” today, I did a quick little sketch of one wearing a festive scarf. It feels like this month has zoomed by so quickly, but I always feel like that this time of year. My inner child is
I love being able to be the first one to tell you how much I love your painting! 🙂 That is the kid in me. Not only that but also to share that I find that this is the one time during the year to let go and relax and wouldn’t it be just perfect if every single day can be like that and .. why can’t it!?! Hugs to all of you and the very best of wishes for a fantastic 2022. A year filled with relaxation, joy, many creative moments and absolutely no stress!!
Thanks so much, Zoie! 😀💕 And yes! This time of year is proof that letting our inner child remind us to relax and have fun is something that definitely needs ot happen all year long! It’s where our most creative ideas happen too! Hope you have a fabulous New Year my friend!!
Charlie how perfect — I was looking for your site for your prompts and thought I bet if I look at the email I will find one from him. And here it is! Glad you had a great Christmas!! We have a dump of snow and very cold temps that will warm up in a couple days. Have a blessed 2022 and thank you for all you do!
We’re snowed in. It would make most states laugh, but we’re seldom prepared for them in Oregon. I’m happy that hubby doesn’t have to go in to work. He’s insisted on dragging me out for a couple of meals but I much prefer to just sit and enjoy looking at it from the warmth and safety of my home!
Thanks so much, Victoria! 😀💕 So true! There are many more days of Christmas left… even if my vacation doesn’t quite cover them all. hehe Hope you and yours had a fabulous Christmas and here’s to a wonderful New Year ahead!
Thanks so much, Marisela! 😀💕 I agree… the house looks like we’ve been robbed after the decorations disappear! lol Totally blah! And, I didn’t have any records left, but my mom has them so she’s bringing some up in the spring when she visits. This will definitely be your year my friend! You’ll find your other half of that orange! hehe Much love to you and a very Happy New Year ahead!
For our prompt of “Fireplace” today, I made a quick little imagined sketch of my dog Phineas in front of one. While we do have a fireplace, it’s too modern for my tastes and so I figured this was a chance to dream
Charlie worry more about fats and cholesterol than calories!! You opened one of your prezzies already? Cool!! Have fun and have a Merry Christmas and a fruitful 2022! Make sure to have extra dessert, after telling you to avoid fats hahaha. Blessings.
Thanks so much, Linda! 😀💕 Philippe makes everything a bit less fattening than the recipes. lol And… the presents that come in the mail from family we get to open whenever they arrive! hehe… but Philippe won’t let me open any of his early. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
Thanks so much, Mugdha! 😀💕 I’m so thrilled you enjoyed this post… and were able to read it in the jungle. Yay! And that encounter with the tigress is definitely a beautiful watercolor moment. Hope you’re getting lots of photos while you’re there. Much love to you my friend and I hope you have a fabulous New Year!
Charlie you described what I hold dear about hearth and home. I’m sending every blessing to your little family for a great Christmas and a safe and healthy new year 🤗🤗🤗
PS If you talk to Santa before I do, I’m still waiting on a puppy, please put in a good word 😏🐩
For our prompt of “Polar Bear” today, I sketched a festively dressed one prepping for a snowball fight. When I was a kid, there was nothing better than waking up to a fresh bit of snow on the ground. While it took
We just decorated my brother’s Christmas tree on Sunday and I got to see some family I haven’t seen for a while. We had a lovely ham dinner and it was all very festive. It was Florida, so no snow, but we managed to work up a very Christmasy feeling anyway. It was a very nice time.
What a totally gorgeous painting, Charlie! It brings up memoires of snowmen, snow forts, ice skating and snowball fights….and being soooo cold we wondered if we would ever thaw out. But of course, there was always a cup of hot chocolate or maybe a steaming hot bowl of soup to warm us up. Have the Merriest Christmas ever., my friend!!!
Thanks so much, Mary! 😀💕 Hot chocolate and hot bowls of soup are sooooo good! I do get tired of the crazy cold weather, but it does come with some pretty awesome perks! A very Merry Christmas to you and yours, my friend!
Thanks so much, Gary! 😀💕 Ours was like that for a few days, now, It’s colder again here, but sunny at least. Last night we had really strong winds and storm that lasted only a few minutes, but not what we’d expect this time of year.
Thanks so much, Zoie! 😀💕 Stay warm my friend!! Yeah, it was so warm here yesterday and no it’s cold again after a wind storm blew new weather our way. No snow in the forecast yet, though, but who knows! 😉
Charlie right on, winter in February when absolutely nobody is interested. I accidentally enjoyed part of a snowfall once and immediately informed myself that it is F E B R U A R Y. Oops. Just go out in it with Phillippe and have a little glass of wine in your cozy home! Ahh bliss….
Hehe! Yeah… by February, I’m just sooooo ready for spring again! lol 😀💕 We’ve wandered outside to watch the snow fall… that’s really a wonderful experience, especially with a glass of wine to keep us warm! hehe
Thanks so much, Marisela! 😀💕 You should totally run and roll in the now like a kid! hehe It is fun! It’s just as an adult, it’s the frozen wet clothes I don’t want to deal with afterward! lol If you get a Texas snow you should go for it, though! Big hugs to you, mi amiga! 😀💕
Good Morning Charlie O’Shields!!! I have to say that I have Never imagined “snow” in Texas. In my eyes I picture cowboys roping steers, branding cattle, getting thrown from a “Buckinghim” horse and possibly people like “Shane” or “Anne Oakly” or even bigger guns like John Wayne or Clint Eastwood….But snow??? I dunno. Even we in up state NY haven’t had a lot.
Hope you and your loved ones have a very Merry Christmas.
Thanks so much, Charlene! 😀💕And Merry Christmas to you!! I’m actually in Kansas City, Missouri (born and raised here) which often gets snow this time of year. My family is in Texas (my mom and dad “left home” when I was 18), though… but very north Texas, so sometimes there’s ice and snow. As an adult, I have to admit I enjoy snow most when I’m off work and don’t have to drive in it! hehe 😉
shawnthompsonart Well I saw a video on a camera that was dropped on a little fight with a grizzly (way smaller than a polar bear). the bear just picked the American photographer up and he tried to fight. The bear won and left him to rot before he ate him. Bears do that. Last I heard the family was fighting the park services for rights to their family member’s camera.
For our prompt of “Candy Cane” today, I made a little sketch of a kitten stealing marshmallows from a mug of hot chocolate. Oh yes, with a couple of candy canes and a cookie included. This is the time of year
I so love it too Charlie. You make me all happy and excited inside. So does being in a grocery store line up with kids – when they are still at the age when they are excited. Sometimes there is the discussion about Santa Claus and an incredulous look from the kids when I say that of course there is a Santa Claus. I just love the Christmas season and I’m so happy that you got to your family’s for a – more or less – traditional time. Now do you three get to enjoy a nice quiet cozy Christmas together?
Thanks so much, Zoie! 😃💕 Hehe… yes… it’s so fun to see the looks on the faces of kids. I think my own looks like that all month long! lol And yes! The rest of the season we might see a couple of friends, but it’s mostly just our cozy trio and lots of quiet down time (well, and gifts, candles, sparkling lights and more! weeeeee!)
Great doodle Charlie. I’m glad you had a great time with your family. We have our family round on Sunday. One of our daughters and her family are going to France for Christmas so we’re having our get together early.
Thanks so much, Gary! 😃💕 Oh that’s wonderful you get to see them early this year. And France for Christmas is so beautiful! I’ve only been there just after, but everything is still decorated for the season.
So grateful to hear you made it out to see family! I know last year was hard to be away so it’s awesome to hear about this year’s congregating, sweet tasting, axe-throwing excitement! I bet there was hugging😉🤗 I met Marcelo at Da Vinci yesterday and I told him you and the World Watercolor and Doodlewash communities are how I found his very awesome family of Paints. The mention of your name was a big smile! Think we all feel like that!
Thanks so much! 😃💕 It was SO good to be with family again this year. And, who knew axe throwing would be involved… thankfully my family gets along really well! lol And yay! Marcello is wonderful… so happy you met. It’s been so great to have made so many wonderful connections in this big crazy world!
Thanks so much, Sandra! 😃💕 hehe… I thought axe throwing would be a little intimidating, but there it’s very safe and about like darts. Though I’m way better at darts! lol Was just glad to land a couple of hits so I can say I’ve tried it properly.
Thanks so much, Marisela! 😃💕 Yep.. that was my hug for sure! 😉 And yay that your squirrel problem is fixed!! That’s awesome! Sadly… still no chicken fried chicken in the mix, but I’m not giving up hope. hehe… Philippe has a new air fryer so he’ll need to expand his horizons a bit. lol Hope you have a fantastic weekend!
Thanks so much, Mugdha! 😃💕 Sorry you have to return so soon to the jungle. Hope everything works out fine. I’m thrilled my posts make you happy… you deserve all the happiness in the world! And now that I post weekly, there’s only 3 more posts this month of me getting younger and younger, giddier and giddier… hehe… so I’ll be about 5 years old completely by the end of the month! Much love and big hugs my friend! ❤️
For our final November prompt of “Decorations,” I ended up with a little mouse marveling at shiny holiday ornaments. As we head into the month of December, I do hope you’ll join us for our “Happy Holidays” art
Marisela you must find someone there to talk with and get some help. The best way to heal is to come out of yourself by helping others. Find some volunteer work in the community. The Catholic church is always looking for helpers. Seniors alone always need companionship and there are agencies set up for volunteer visiting etc. Daycares use volunteers. The only way to come out of yourself and the misery is to reach out to others and help them. In helping others (loving your neighbour) you fill your own soul.
Pursuant to that, try not to use occasions (Christmas, Easter, birthday etc) as markers for your journey becasue then you might give up just before the miracle, as the famous saying indicates.
The only one who can change your life is you. God will get you there. Ask. Seek. Find. Doors open.
The tree finally did what I told it to. Now I can go edit the world…?
That’s exactly what dazzling hope looks like! Good friends are always a wonderful thing! 😃💕 And thanks for sharing your truth… it’s never easy when we know we have to wait on getting our dreams. But, I’ve always found that if it’s a really good dream, it’s always worth the wait. And what we have now, in this moment, even if it doesn’t amount to anything close to that beautiful dream, there’s always something beautiful to cherish. Like this virtual hug that I’m sending your way!! ❤️
That’s so wonderful to hear! Sounds like it’s going to be a fun month of creating ahead for you! 😃💕 Yay for keeping that wonder of a child, and the constant courage. Little kids assume everything they create is an instant masterpiece. I don’t see why we adults should ever feel differently about our work! Hugs to you, my friend!
Hmm. Get a notebook and a good pen, the kind you can’t feel in your hand and then take the cap off, helps us write faster and under creative brain. Write all this kind of stuff into the journal. Yes I forgot about the pandemic when I said do volunteer work, oops. Take care.
For our prompt of “Hibernate” today, I ended up with this little bear snuggling under a blanket. The weather has gotten quite cold where I live and so Philippe and I have pulled out all of our warm blankets.
Charlie have fun with your tree. I erected mine this morning. First the branches had to be edited. Two hours. Then I took the string of lights and draped those over the tree but left their actualy placement til I feel like editing those for another long time. Then I’ll have the ornaments. Every day I edit everything til anytime between Dec. 24 – 25 and then it comes down. Happens every year.
We had our Thanksgiving a month ago — enjoy yours!
I didn’t have too much planned for the holidays, which is good since I’ll be doing some unexpected travel between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’m just going to enjoy all the lights and decorations that everyone else has up, and not worry about having to do any of it, or clean any of it up afterward!
So, I do like your description of hibernating like a bear…that is exactly how I feel these days…we’ve had a busy fall, but now get nestled in. Cozy blankets are everywhere…on the couches and chairs, on the beds… you can always get warm here. The shorter days and cooler nights do make me “hibernate”…sleep in longer, and I do enjoy this b/c I am retired now. So Happy Thanksgiving yo you and yours. Enjoy your family time, and quiet time.
All the best of everything!
Adorable! It’s meant to get a lot colder here over the weekend, it might actually feel like blanket weather! I feel a bit like hibernating at this time of year, at least until December, when the Christmas countdown officially begins – music, lights… yay! Have a fun Thanksgiving!
Oh Charlie Baby Bear is so delightful. I read your descriptions of this season and I think to myself “I have to be more like Charlie”. But your stories of what you are doing cuddle me up in a blanket like Baby Bear is cuddled up and I enjoy each and every one. Enjoy your Thanksgiving and the tree decorating. 🙂
Thanks so much, Mugdha! 😃💕 And welcome back my friend!! And seasonal winter fruits sound amazing too! Truly… I just love food, so any food that arrives once a year is super special. Sending you warm hugs in return! Much love!
For our prompt of “Sweater” today, I made a little sketch of a fox wearing one while enjoying a cup of something warm. I was thinking of hot chocolate, coffee, and Irish coffee all at once, and couldn’t quite
Charlie you are full of cuddles and love! You changed your format, needs log in now in order to click Like or leave a comment. I forgot I had that log in name! I have a different one to log in to my account above. Considering I am trying to decide whether to do Word Press for book promo or to go with Facebook this is getting more confusing all the time. Maybe that foxy fox will share the Irish Coffee (no whip cream thanks).
I was looking at my sweaters today too but not yet. I am too stubborn. We had a lightning storm last night (in November in Canada) and slides and what a mess, back to hoarding because the food trucks can’t get through.
Enjoy your nicer weather! And keep sending us those magnificent sketches.
Thanks so much, Linda! 😃💕 I’m not sure what changed, as I didn’t make any changes, but seemed like a temporary glitch where WordPress likes, weren’t loading on the page, but they’re back now, so that might have been an issue with logins. It’s hard to tell these days! hehe It’s actually been warmer here than I’d like… hehe… I switched to sweaters and it’s tough to go back and forth! lol But yeah… I think an Irish coffee would fix it all! 😃💕
I’m always so hot (and not in the good way, lol). I love the look and feel of sweaters but can seldom wear them. When every one else is piling on the heavy stuff, I’m still wearing my summer clothes. I still envy you your Paris sweaters!
I’m actually the same way! Most of my sweaters are “spring” sweaters… it has to get super cold before I can wear the bulky ones and those are only for work when I don’t move around much. Otherwise, I’ll sweat right through them! lol 😉
Thanks so much, Marisela! 😃💕 Yeah, after I twisted my ankle last summer I wasn’t walking for about 6 weeks, then the weather got too cold before I started up again and well… it was a weird year! lol It wasn’t until Philippe got a Vitamix and made lots of yummy vegetable soups that I was able to fix things as it were. hehe And yes, I’ll definitely send a hug south when I’m in Texas! I’m not looking forward to the travel, but will appreciate the little break with family! 🙂
For our prompt of “Maple” today, I thought of autumn leaves and ended up with a cat napping on a bed of some. I adore this time of year where I live. The trees have transformed into a beautiful palette of bright
Love this happy kitten, Charlie! It’s been a long time since jumping into a pile of leave was on my list of playful things to do but I sure do remember the fun of doing just that and then having to rake them back into a pile to make dad happy. I think he had as much fun watching us as we had playing in those mountains of color. Don’t ever grow up, Charlie,
We don’t have any trees around, but we live in about the lowest part of the county, directly in the path of the East wind that roars down the Columbia Gorge. As a result, we get the leaves of almost everyone in the neighborhood. Now is that fair?
I love the raccoon at the writing desk!
hehe! If there’s colorful leaves, it might be fair!… but not having to rake them! lol 😉 And thanks! 😃💕 I added that to my Sketching Stuff sign up form. There won’t likely be a newsletter until next year, but I wanted a more dedicated space and way to write to folks. The newsletter will be different and be just me rambling with thoughts on creativity and making things and not a raccoon. I hope people aren’t disappointed. hehe
Thanks so much, Marisela! 😃💕 Thrilled you enjoyed this one. Yeah… we always change… and sometimes in small ways and sometimes big ways, but life is never static. As for the season… the autumn winds came with a burst today and brought freezing temps and a tiny bit of snow, which was brief, yet lovely! Phineas has been in his little red sweater for walks now.
We’ve reached the start of the new month and that means the start of a brand new Doodlewash art challenge! For our second prompt of “Pie” today, my mind went first to nearly every pie I could think of, because I
November is a cornbread month for me – it just seems like you have to have cornbread. I make it up in my bread machine as a bread rather than a cake so it isn’t quite as sweet or crumbly or as high in calories – just tasty with chili!
Looks like a delicious slice of pie to me, Charlie!!! We finally had a few days of cool weather down here, cool enough to open doors and windows and make it feel a tiny bit like the season for celebrations .Turkey and cranberries are in the freezer waiting for the big November feast!
Yummy pie Charlie!🥧😊 That’s as close as I’ll be getting anytime soon so I’m savoring the memories of my Grammie’s apple and lemon pie-perfect crusts! If I think about how nice they were it would be hard to top them so I don’t feel as bad not eating pie now, besides, I ‘ve probably eaten my lifetime allotment! 😄😁😆🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧
Thanks so much, Marisela! 😃💕 I’m a bit late this time on replies… been unplugging a bit lately to rejuvenate myself. Aww that new French place sounds awesome! And truly… it’s all Philippe on portion control… I have no self control on that front! lol Especially when it comes to whipped cream!! YUM!! And it’s always a good time for a comeback! Yours is coming!! Much love! ❤️
