I recall that first one…my was I stumped. Nothing worked like previous paints…but after 3 years of trial and lots of errors…..I found my stride. I love the freedom, the mystery….watching the paint do what it wants to. It is refreshing to get out of the way and let “:IT” have a life of its own.

it would be interesting to know how others have used prints of their work? Is it economical? Do they still sell the originals? What are the best printing services . I myself have only made 2 prints of my paintings and I used glicee . Personally I don’t like doing prints….am I old fashioned to just sell originals?

YUPo paper is made in Japan. It is slick like plastic. Watercolor can not soak into the surface so the water has to evaporate out. The paint is then adhered to the surface. I found I needed a sealant so use a clear gloss spray before framing. It does need a mat though. it is difficult to work with at first…just remember you are…[Read more]

i was not sure at first. we live in the desert of southern Utah…I put 3 paintings in a gallery under bright artificial lights…they did not fade after 3 years ….no one I have sold them to has complained either. Of course I am careful not to put them in direct sunlight. I treat them like my other watercolors .

  • “Painting the landscape”…mixed media. I gessoed a wood surface, applied foil then used the watercolors to get the effect I needed. I used white acrylic also but the difficult part was deciding on the areas of foil needed. I hang this one in my creative corner of the studio as inspiration daily.

  • many are fearful of new materials. When YUPO paper first came out I received some samples in an order from Dick Blick…I was teaching art at a local high school at the time. Back to YUPO…I had no idea how it worked so invented my own methods. I love the flow with colors that do not sink into the paper. It is very versatile ..not only…[Read more]

    • Hi Mel. Never heard of Yupo before. Is that brand or a type of paper? What brand of Yupo did you purchase?

    • I feel the same way about Saguaro. LOVE these two paintings, the “human” one made me laugh because I’ve thought the same thing before.
