MISTLETOE ~15/31 @doodlewashed December sketch prompt. Another Christmas tradition we don’t really know or practice here in South Africa, but I like the idea of true love kissing under the mistletoe! #WorldWatercolorGroup #nadsart #sketch #watercolor #Doodlewashed IMG_20171215_173221_793 View
For our prompt of “Toys” today, so many options ran through my mind, but I decided to take the opportunity to sketch the little teddy bear that my sister gave me earlier this week. It was tiny and adorable and,
When I left after my last visit with my brother, he gave me some clotted cream that he bought while in England. Earlier this week, I received a gift of more clotted cream with some homemade crumpets. This was all the more marvelous to me because it was linked to that last good-bye. I loved clotted cream before, but now it’s even more special!
12/13/19 Toys Under the tree there was always a top and a few wooden alphabet blocks. One year when I my sister was three or four she got a red cowgirl outfit complete with hat, fringed vest, skirt and a sheriff’s badge. There’s still a photo around here of her all decked out in her red outfit…blond curls peeking out under the hat. 12.13.19 Toys img004
That would have been the right time frame…Lizzie was born in 54 and she was probably 3 when she got the outfit. She was such a hoot. Years later, like in the late 80’s or early 90’s, we were shopping and found a pair of red cowboy boots and we had to buy them for her. She loved those boots!!
For our prompt of “Poinsettia,” I paired one with a little English robin and a pine branch. When I was a kid, my mom would always get a poinsettia plant that she’d pick up at the grocery store and place near the
It sounds lovely! We don’t decorate hete. It got to be too hard for me to keep up. The thing I miss is a live tree. These days though, I really couldn’t justify killing a tree, so I couldn’t have one of those even if I was to decorate. I do miss the smell of pine in the house. I may get a candle just to festive things up a bit.
Thanks, Lisa! 😃💕 You should definitely get that candle at least. And honestly, these days you can just plug in a string of LED lights and toss them on the floor without the fire hazard from our youth! hehe… instant magic!
Thanks, Sharon! 😃💕 So true… this is all I’d actually need, but then I get wanting all sorts of things. New ornaments, new shiny objects, each year. But it’s never the things that matter… just the feeling of being with those I love.
12/12/19 Poinsettia A local civic group was selling beautiful Poinsettias to raise money and they had these beautiful “Valentine” Poinsettias which I had never seen before. The leaves are bright red and almost pleated. The plants are beautiful and my painting doesn’t do this plant justice. 12.12.19 Poinsettia img040.jpg
Our prompt of “Snowflake” today made me think of catching snowflakes on my tongue when I was a kid. Here by proxy we have this blue jay doing the same. I’m still not sure exactly why this was so much fun, but it
The sad thing is that there are children who are simply little adults. Usually, because they’ve been taught that anything joyful is sinful or just foolish. Some people may not remember tasting snowflakes because they never did – even when the snow was all around.
You know Charlie, sometimes I think I don’t have time to read your posts, but I do and you always make my day with your writing and your art. I love little Charlie as much as I do the (not) grown up Charlie. Thank you xx
Oh wow! That makes me SO happy to hear Carole! 😃💕 Yes, a crazy guy who posts daily is indeed tough to keep up with, but I’m so thrilled you’re enjoying these! You made my heart smile! And if you haven’t yet, I hope you’ll check out my podcast and the audio version of my stories here – https://doodlewash.com/sketching-stuff-podcast/
Did I mention that your posts always make me think? They do!
I’ve never lived in an area that gets a lot of snow so I’ve only seen it a few times. I don’t remember ever trying to catch it in my mouth. I don’t remember acting SEEING the snow fall. Just finding it on the ground in the morning. The one time it snowed when I was a kid, we managed to scrape together enough snow to make a skinny snowman! lol
Your snow-eating jay is awesome!! I love your snowflakes and background, too! =)
Thanks, Darlene! 😃💕 Thrilled these posts make you think! And think back… we all enjoyed very different childhoods, yet someone everything is linked in a way. No matter where we lived there’s something that’s always the same about being a kid. And, of course, refusing to ever grow up!
