Just a sketch before I go. . .🎵🎵 I had to sketch this glorious eggplant before it becomes eggplant parmesan. Graphite, colored pencils, watercolor in my handmade, leather-bound Bristol paper sketchbook.
I mixed a dark crimson using red, blue, a bit of brown, and Payne gray for the first layer, dark blue for 2nd layer, and purple for 3rd layer.…[Read more]

Proof positive that one can draw creative inspiration from ANYWHERE and ANYthing. This shirt looked like a person shouting and I knew I had to draw it. Continuous line drawing, watercolor wash in my handmade Bristol sketchbook. OPINED

I tried this technique on this piece, which is a rendering of weathered barn wood at the Farmer’s Museum in Cooperstown, NY. The bloom was exactly what was needed to achieve the results I was going for.

The cover of my accordion sketchbook for my DC trip to the Alternatives Conference. It is a little lopsided, but a good try with such an intricate, complex building. CAPITOL HILL

Hello friends,
I’m new here so I thought I would do a quick intro. I am a watercolor newbie. I began with watercolors in earnest (beyond the occasional background on an art journal page) a couple of months ago and love it. I love the soft brightness, the unpredictability, the way color flows where water goes, and it has changed the way I look at…[Read more]

Oh that is wonderful, Paulissa! So brightly coloured and you’ve done very well with your layering and shading! It also looks like you’ve gotten a good grasp on the water to pigment ratio – something that I seriously struggle over. I’m so glad you’ve taken a moment to introduce yourself on this new journey! We are a quiet group but each of us h…[Read more]

Continuing to document the NY trip in watercolor. This row of kayaks along the Hudson River at Watertown caught my eye and I knew I would paint them. Really happy with how this came out, in spite of overworking the shadow on the 1st boat. Learning, learning. . . KAYAKS ON THE HUDSON

I came.across the heart leaf while looking for a subject. The Japanese beetles are doing a number on so many things, even with treatments if the trees and soil with Neem oil. BEETLE LOVEFEST

Thank you! It was fun to do after many days of the 30×30 direct watercolor challenge. By the point that I painted this, I was ready to not worry about realism.
