I found this while poking through some of my old art journals from 2013. I get bouts of insomnia off and on and one night at 3:00 am I grabbed a mirror and did a self-portrait. Nobody can say I’m vain, lol. CAATSOL Lesson #30

#DoodlewashMarch2021 prompts: Potatoes. Did you know that potato blossoms used to be fashionable? Marie Antoinette made them all the rage when she wore one in her hair. Out of all the brush shapes, I find the rigger the hardest to use. I decided that I’d use one to try and get all those perspective lines lined up. Phew! Only took about 5 times […] View
this is beautiful!
Thank you, Gaeyle!
I too get insomnia… but often just lay in bed… this is fantastic!! And you’re beautiful at 3:00am or any other time my friend! 💕Those eyes are lovely and freakishly wise… hehe…I love this!!!
Thank you, Charlie! You are such a flatterer, lol. My husband says this is the way I look when I’m giving him the stink-eye! Half the time my insomnia is caused by ideas racing through my head. Sometimes it helps if I get up and work on one of them. Sometimes.
Lol… there’s a fine line between stink eye and creative distraction I’ve found! lol I’m often accused of being abrupt or distant, but darn it… those ideas… they just aren’t going to make themselves! 😉 hehe
Exactly! People just have to learn not to get between an artist and a creative idea!
haha! So true… if they do that they certainly deserve the stink eye! 😉
There is always beauty in character, which you captured so perfectly! Love your self-portrait, ‘Stink-eye’ and all!
Thank you so much, Fantine!
Wow! I’m without words! Really looking tired!

Thank you, Robert! I really was – but sometimes that leads to the best art. You lose a lot of your filters when you are that tired.
not so sure it works for me 🙂 maybe one day/night I’ll try anyway

Beautifully drawn, brutally frank – I love it!
Thank you, Terri! It’s much more interesting drawing portraits that way.
