#DoodlewashFebruary2023 prompt: Coins and Bicycle
Did you know the Penny-farthing bicycle was so named because the wheel sizes had the same size ratio as the British coins penny and farthing?
A very quick sketch, combining two prompts.

So cool.
Thank you, Angela!
As a cyclist I love your painting Sandra. I’d never want to ride one though.
Thank you, Gary! I wouldn’t want to ride one either. Those things were dangerous!
Fantastic!!!
Thank you, Mary!
I love it when you take things beyond the simple prompt. Very educational!
Thank you so much, Jutta! It’s fun trying to think beyond the obvious response.
Gorgeous Sandra 😊
Thank you, Brenda!

Thank you, Priscilla!
Wonderful piece.. one question
How hard was it to get the wheels right? They look great but I’ve always struggled with painting wheels.
Thank you, Matthew! Wheels aren’t the easiest thing in the world. Study and practice – I studied perspective for many years and practiced a lot. These days I don’t worry about it too much, relying on those years. For this painting, I wanted to keep it loose, so I concentrated on trying to give it a feeling of motion rather than perfect perspective. Toward that end, I blurred, suggested faint circles inside the wheels, doubled a couple of the spokes, and used the same colors as the background.
It’s close to perfect
Thank you so much, Matthew!
