And here we have all of my 'from the tube' blues - at best student grade (Artists Loft & Jack Richeson) watercolors. Today I expand experiments and start mixing artists grade with the rest of my wc paints --- I do love texture and surprises! Luckily. IMG_2744

IF you look very closely, you'll see I tried a few different approaches with leaves and blossoms - at least with my limited Schmincke wc's - I can show the quantity of blooms vs leaves a bit better. I like the roots of the other Flamboyan Tree a lot more. IMG_2742

On a trip to Puerto Rico this past July ( hunny's home island & why our home is full of revolving Priority Mail Boxes 😉 <3 ) ... I fell in love with the Flamboyan Tree. (I love trees) Though the tree has far more green - I was working with my limited Grumbacher Academy colors and I like this start at a better tree. IMG_2741

In a too-late effort to get a free dot card from Schmincke; I met a great rep, who despite my tardiness; sent me a surprise package with 3 free samples. (Other manufactures haven't been so generous; but that's business I guess.) Based solely on WC performance - Schmincke has the most # of paints I like (based on extensive YT and blog research); though there are plenty others I like a lot too - Pfeiffer Art Supply has a Tanager Turquoise that 'shelves' when dry - great for my big project), and I can not wait to get my hands on Daniel Smith's Lunar Black - that should work beautifully in some parts, limited, but pop effect - worst case scenario is it is made of ferrosoferric oxide and my hunny the volcanologist/geologist, has access and knowledge - a DIY project? But now for a couple of artsy-fartsy shots of my experiments. IMG_2729

3 days before joining doodlewash, I bought a Da Vinci sample card , on Blick I think. Now I think a second sample from here with DO points is a good idea 🙂 This test page was made with the 3 closest primary colors I could figure ... BUT PLEASE correct me, it matters and I truly appreciate it 😀 IMG_2730

Last month I purchased a trio of Grumbacher Academy wc .. for a $1 at Jerry's . Hunny was quick to say he liked how nice the plates looked. Rare guy, I am fortunate. And besides, the plates are studio use only. IMG_2728

Liz, this is my bears in woods, during creation in my hotel room. Somewhere in a sketchbook is the finished piece .... but my time is ending - off to reality, and more cafe! bearsinbushesinhotel

A doodled tree, ummm is ink accepted as watercolor here when used in different densities??? sorry if not ... The intent is to create a finished piece in this style, in watercolor (once my DaVinci sample arrives, waiting, waiting ...) Basicly I'm happy with most of it. In the final piece I will likely do substantial linework to detail the bark, leaves and whatnot. But for a study, I'm good with it. IMG_2656IMG_2657

Technically, this is ink, but a 2 part w.i.p. . The goal is to produce 2 opposite views *(L) looking OUT of dark woods *(R) looking INTO dark woods This is a w.i.p. I'll return to after the holiday seasons have pasted and possibly after the start of March - 😉 crazy artist plans for February 😀 . IMG_2662
