Kate, I love this!
I’ve just begun to explore “urban sketching”— although I’m generally not sketching in urban areas really.
Beautiful examples!-
Urban sketching — the term — was coined by peeps sketching in cities but really, the rules are that you are sketching your world. So rural is fine. What they don’t think counts is a sketch of a teapot or cat — unless you are drawing the cat on a street with the house, or the teapot in the cafe surroundings. #worldwatercolormonth day 9: Climbing Mountains. It was a 2 hour scenic walk from the top of the cable car to our hotel on Mount Huangshan, Anhui province in Eastern China. As we walked, the mist moved in and out, hiding the peaks and then opening up for views of them. IMG_6190

Made this painting based on demonstration by wonderful Russian watercolor artist Ilya Ibryaev (from exhibition “Masters of watercolor -2018” in Saint-Petersburg this February). Unfortunately he doesn’t explain anything while painting, so one has to guess everything 🙂

Truly beautiful!

Wow,this is a stunning piece of art. Well done.
-
Awesome! Did you paint a grisaille undercoat?
-
Thank you, Shar. I didn’t start with a grisaille. I started with light washes of Raw Sienna + Permanent Rose and built up my values with Ultramarine, Burnt Sienna, and Burnt Umber. For the background, I had to switch to stronger colors: The dark blue is a mix of Phthalo Blue, Alizarin Crimson, New Bambodge Yellow.
