I’m a fountain pen user / collector as well as inks. I’ve been having fun using my fountain pen ink in my art lately. I’m also a lover of sheening inks. Sheen is a property in some inks that is not produced by adding glitter to an ink. Those are called shimmering inks. I’m trying to find a way to incorporate ink sheen into my art but watercolor paper is so absorbent it’s proving hard. Sheen needs ink resistant paper to show well when it pools on top of the paper. I may need to go mixed media. I’ve attached two pieces using fountain pen ink / water / watercolor. Also a link to my ink sheen posts on instagram – http://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/tdbink/

Wow I like those!
I’m fortunate to receive products from Exaclair USA for review and giveaways. The last one I did was for Jacques Herbin’s new Amethyste de l’Oural, which is a deep purple with a silver sheen. For all that it’s dark, it has a good degree of transparency. I haven’t tried to use it for painting, but I intend to, soon!
Nice! Lucky you. I’ve eyed that new ink and will most likely pick it up. I’m not a huge fan of shimmering inks (added shine) but I do like the purple/silver combo.
now see, I so want to get into inks! I have a dip pen on my WANT list right now. I know almost nothing about dip pens but I do know I want a super flexible nib. Which one is the most flexible, I want to make really unique to me writing, much like Danny Gregory does! Oh, does it matter that I’M LEFT HANDED?
Have a look at jetpens.com. They have really in-depth reviews of every brand of pen they carry, and do lots of side by side comparisons. It’s really helpful when you are trying to decide which might suit you best. I am a lefty as well, and I use several different vintage glass pens. The nibs aren’t flexible, but they each have different characteristics.
I also paint with inks in my sketchbook — not so much out of the sketchbook yet because most fade easily in light, being much more fugitive than watercolors.

How lovely! I tend to draw with the inks more than to paint with them. I’m into Zentangle and love drawing patterns with fountain pens. Time Machine- Amethyste de l’Oural in Goldline
Nice @kate-powell … yes I wouldn’t hang unless it was protected from UV.
Great drawing @sandra-strait ! Lovely shading.
Beautiful paintings.
Very cool results!
