Another painting inspired by BBC TV Great Continental Railway Journeys. This time Michael Portillo was in Southern Spain and visited Ronda, Seville and Cordoba. This bridge in Ronda really made me want to paint it P1040754-Edit View
Gouache is a versatile medium, often described as paint that is in-between watercolor and acrylic, with the best features of both. Vidhi Khandelwal makes wonderful use of these features in her book Painting

Beautiful painting and very clever way to combine the different prompts. It was fun finding the prompts. But what about the skates ? No wonder the snowman is sitting down trying to skate with the pair like that. Love the painting.
For our prompt of “Ribbon” today, I ended up with a little mouse playing with a bit of red ribbon. This was actually a good reminder that I need to do a bit of Christmas shopping so that I actually have things to
I hate wrapping gifts. Gift bags are my go to when I have to give gifts in person. Sometimes, with Joe, I just tell him to close his eyes and then hand him an Amazon box. For people who live far away, Amazon is my best friend, because I just have packages sent directly to them. Works for me!
Adorable Charlie! It spit snow here today. It is because our snowblower was picked up for annual service, late! Now we’ll see if we get it back before the snow comes to stay. 🤔 Time to call it a night.
Welcome to a brand new month and our December Doodlewash art challenge! This month’s prompts where provided by Doodlewash community member Mary Roff and first one up is “Peppermint”! I didn’t have much time so I
This mouse looks almost real with his little hads. Candy canes in a jar……beautiful. I liked it when my son was little because he liked candy canes in his hot cocoa. Then I had an excuse to have a pretty container of them. Otherwise, like the rest of us they would still be there until June! Hahaha!
Thanks so much, Marisela! 😃💕 Oh wow! Love that starlights mints were a treat of choice! hehe And guess waiting for those foods to return along with Christmas is all part of the fun… but oh it would be fun all year!
Aww thanks so much, Bay! 😃💕 I’m so happy you enjoyed this one! Yay for another peppermint ice cream lover. I’ve been thinking about it ever since I wrote this so I’ll have to get some this season. I tend to talk a lot as well, so I’m sure Philippe prefers it when I just type my thoughts to all of you! lol As for the requests for watercolor prints to be added to the shop, it’s just via my contact form (if you see something you like just send a note with a link to the post) via this link: https://doodlewash.com/contact/
For our final prompt of “Sunrise” this month, I made a quick little doodle of a rooster and then sort of made up a fast and loose background of what I remember from my childhood times on the farm. It’s more the
Love this, Charlie!! There is nothing quite like the sound of a rooster at sunrise and when we first moved to Florida our neighbor’s rooster sang us a tune every morning. I love the sound; it reminds me of childhood mornings on my grandparent’s farm. November did zoom right by and I swear we’re in some sort of time warp…can Christmas really only be 25 days away??
Charlie yesterday sunrise came with a rose coloured sky so I ripped open the balcony door and flashed my cell. Yes I remember rooster call in our little coal town in BC Canada’s Kootenays which reminds me I have to get back to my memoir and get some work done.
He’s a beautiful rooster. It’s been a while since I painted one. I might have to do one this month. December is always too fast. Quick on the heels of my favorite holiday of Thanksgiving, I have a December birthday then Xmas and New Years Eve. Plus I’m quite into celebrating the winter solstice because the days start getting longer and I’m all for looking forward to spring in December.
2020 has seemed to go on forever, and yet it’s hard to believe it’s almost over. It’s funny how much importance we place on such time-keeping, since it is totally a man-made invention. Part of our need to have that feeling of starting fresh, I think.
No I lived in the Kootenays when I was a kid. Natal is no longer a town as it was taken in the 60s by a mining company for minefield (coal). Another company has it now. Natal and its Turtle Mountain is slightly west of the famous Frank Slide. Now we are in the Okanagan where we don’t get the famous Canadian winters although we do get that season. I call it The Ugly. The Kootenays are tremendously beautiful but the Okanagan has it all. Four Season playground. I sound like a travel salesperson.
Thanks so much, Mugdha! 😃💕 Yes I grew up eating lots of farm kitchen goodies. My best memories of childhood! And you’ll totally be able to paint a rooster… I used to fuss over all of the details and then I stepped back and look at the parts. It’s not a lot of parts as it turns out. So I just scribble in those and jump in and color!
Bonjour, Cathy! 😃💕 So happy you enjoyed this! Yes, more in the style you personally prefer. 😉 True, this is a very different holiday season to be sure, but so much to be thankful for in the coming year. All the best to you and yours!
