This is a great sketch and an excellent idea to paint, Charlie.
I’ve noticed the title of this post and had to open and read it. I plan to do something similar – to sketch in watercolours our last summer’s trip to France.
I will also try to join doodlewash’ May 2020 painting challenge… after a while!
Hope you, your family and all…[Read more] -

Oh well! Silly or not silly, but you definitely captured the “character” of Froot Loops 🙂 Well done!

Rod, I’m happy to inspire you and other artists here to try new ways of expressing yourselves through painting. Sometimes I paint things from my environment as they are, but stepping a bit out of one’s comfort zone poses new challenges and in dealing with those paves the way to new expressions. I think this is what every artist should aspire to.

Shar, do not get me wrong, please! Arches is the state-of-the-art, fantastic paper! Every brand paper creates different sort of visual effects and textures, and in the painting above (Two Hares), you can see how it may turn on Hahnemühle paper 🙂

Thank you, Rod. I’ve found the chaos-painting-approach to be extremely enjoying and interesting. My current rule no. 1 is to stick to the shape and in the last painting phase, to add depth and dimensions. I hope one day to brake the main shapes and merge the chaos in a more prominent way. I can illustrate such view by giving Shirley Travena’s…[Read more]

Thank you, Shar. Real magic here is definitely connected with the paper, which is Hahnemühle cold pressed. I cannot achieve the same effects when painting on Arches or Fabriano, e.g. my rabbits on Arches are very soft, while Hahnemühle creates beautiful rich textures.

Interesting! I have yet to try Hahnemühle paper; the best I have used so far is Arches. I have Fabriano studio paper in both cold and hot press. So far, have been painting portraits on Arches cold press. Am going to try hot pressed for the next portrait; but don’t have it in Arches.

That’s what I have read. Looking forward to trying hot vs cold press. I am getting so much into painting that eventually I will be trying different papers.
