My Favorite Body Part

Day 25 #WorldWatercolorGroup My Favorite Body Part Blue Eye Macro Watercolor Sketch

As I read today’s prompt, I realize now it’s also rather giggle worthy as to what someone might come up with. Despite all the various and nefarious options available, I have to say that eyes are definitely my favorite part of a person. That said, humans and or simply their various body parts are my least favorite thing to paint or sketch. So, even this attempt to create a single eye today made me dream about the more enjoyable things I could be sketching. But that’s all part of the challenge, I guess. It is, however, my own eye so I guess this would qualify as a self-portrait, so there’s that. Not sure if you think it’s a good likeness, but if you ever find yourself this close to me, we would actually be kissing, and that could be rather awkward since we haven’t really met.

Eyes are a fabulous thing when you’re with someone you ought to be kissing, though. Well, wonderful and terrifying actually. The good thing and bad thing about eyes is their complete inability to lie. Mouths, of course, can be rather good at lying or simply hiding something by staying stubbornly shut. But, in the end, the mouth doesn’t matter, unless you’re actually kissing, because, for the observant, the eyes will tell you everything you really need to know. Now, whether you really want to know those things in another issue entirely, but if you’re on the hunt for truth, look no further than the person’s pair of eyes staring back at you. Surprisingly, this even works in a mirror.

The problem is, sometimes we don’t want to see the truth. In this moment, eyes can be a real pain in the ass and it’s best to simply stare at the mouth. If that proves awkward, then simply kiss it as a means of distraction. I’ve no idea the lesson in all of this, save to say that eyes are a real bitch. But when they’re looking at you in that certain way, that way that says, “I love you,” they’re quite possibly the most wonderful things in the world. That look that warms you all over and tells you that no matter what happens next, everything will be alright somehow. We all know what happens next, and that’s when the mouth finally joins in for that kiss. The other body parts come next, of course, but I’ll just leave all of that to your own vivid imagination.

What great whimsical wisdom Charlie O! And your eye is beautiful!
I do have to say – and it may be because I am enjoying my glass of wine this evening, but it looks like a right eye with a left eye brow. I think I better quit looking trying to figure it out and just enjoy! 🙂 LOL! Beautiful!

  2. This is a fabulously painted eye, Love your writings so true….or was it? I can’t tell from this eye, so I thought ‘ just kiss it’ but I can’t find the mouth! He he

    • Author

hehe!! Thanks, Rebecca!! 😃💕 Glad ya liked this… yeah… no mouth to kiss I’m afraid. It was all I could do to make the eye! Lol

  3. Arvind 6 years ago

Fantastic! So nicely rendered including the eyebrows. I really appreciate your being able to be so dedicated and regular with drawings. Inspires me to do the same.

    • Author

Thanks so much, Arvind! 😃 I’m still trying to keep up with daily… it’s become such a great habit! And really rewarding! Please do the same! Love your drawings!

Great painting, and my favorite body part to draw, too. 🙂

  5. Bill Jackson 6 years ago

Eyes truly ARE the windows to the soul. Nice post.

Now that I’m done laughing, I’m thinking maybe you should have painted lips with all the kissing going on. Lol

    • Author

haha! It was seriously all I could do to get the eye made. No idea why, but I’ve never enjoyed sketching humans. hehe… Now kissing… that’s totally different!! LOL

Great eye painting! The liquid quality you’ve achieved is fantastic. Is that a close approximation of your real eye colour? If so, I’m jealous. Confession: if I’d participated in this a challenge I probably would have drawn a bum.

    • Author

Haha! I was hoping for more bums… you should have jumped in and done it! Thanks, Laura! 😃💕 And yeah.. this is pretty much my eye color, but it does change in different light or with what I’m wearing at the time.

Thanks for the giggle! ☺️ Eye love your humor, Charlie! Hehe! 👁💜😃 Beautiful blue eyes! 💙

    • Author

Hehe… Eye love your pun!! Thanks, Jill! 😃💕 I was surprised this one turned out as well as it did since humans aren’t a fun subject for me. Hehe… except to kiss! Lol

My body part is my mouth – not my favorite at all, as I don’t have the ability to smile so I always look glum. Unless I’m totally astonished, as by this post, and then my mouth tends to drop open making me look totally stupid.
And you, Mr. O’Shields, are about one eyebrow away from an “R” rating here. Hee hee hee.

I really was fascinated by your eye…. I spent a long time deciding if it was a right or left eye or if the hair in the eyebrow was going in the right direction… and that’s when I kenw that you had me and my interest. Good job!

    • Author

Thanks so much, Joe! 😃 It’s such a macro version that it doesn have an odd effect to it! Glad you found it interesting!

  11. A truly beautiful painting of an eye, Charlie. I read a profile of a politician in a newspaper last weekend which described her as smiling often, but not always with her eyes. That says it.

    • Author

Thanks, Michael! 😃Yeah… very few politicians smile with their eyes, but sometimes it’s just the Botox making it impossible. There’s an orange politician now who’s eyes are seriously hard to look at. Only lies and anger there. It’s disturbing.

  12. memadtwo 6 years ago

Great philosophy to accompany your art, as usual, Charlie. When someone won’t look me in the eye, that’s an immediate red flag to me.
As to mouths lying…well just listen to the news. Actually don’t! We’ve had enough already!
Back to the eyes of love…(K)

    • Author

Hehe… thanks, Kerfe! 😃💕 Yeah… that’s exactly why I don’t listen to the news. It’s horrible and I always feel like they must think I’m stupid. Which, of course, I’m not, so it’s insulting to be lied to liked that.

I had a good chuckle with your narrative today Charlie, “keep your eye on the prize”. Cool painting!

  14. Jacob 6 years ago

I did snigger a bit when I first saw this prompt, pondering what you might do and the delights that could potentially pop up on my Reader. I am, of course, referring to enormous eyes. 😉 Beautiful! They’re my favourite part of portraiture, a challenge but a joy. The window to the soul, and all that!

    • Author

Hehe…yeah…I try to keep this site PG-13 so the most might be a bum, but that’s not as interesting to paint. Lol Glad you liked this! I had several friends say it looks list like me so yay! I finally achieved a likeness! Now back to checking non-human things! 😊Lol

      • Jacob 6 years ago

Haha, I might have done a bum, were I forced into this. Probably not my own, though… 😮

I could tell it was you immediately. Perhaps it being Selfie Day dropped a hint, or perhaps it’s because I’ve tried drawing your eyes myself in the past! 😛

  15. Margriet Bierens 6 years ago

Oh nice mr pretty blue eyes. I see clear eyes with a bit of melancholy!
Very important that you always keep your sparkling eyes, that means you are very alive and enjoy Life!
    Nice day!

I know each part of body is important specially this one! You did a fantastic job Charlie! So realistic!

  17. […] I titled My Favorite Dinner Food. And though I normally don’t enjoy drawing people, there was a selfie of just my eye that I rather liked. Usually my favorites are the more recent ones, as I see little things in them […]
