As I read today’s prompt, I realize now it’s also rather giggle worthy as to what someone might come up with. Despite all the various and nefarious options available, I have to say that eyes are definitely my favorite part of a person. That said, humans and or simply their various body parts are my least favorite thing to paint or sketch. So, even this attempt to create a single eye today made me dream about the more enjoyable things I could be sketching. But that’s all part of the challenge, I guess. It is, however, my own eye so I guess this would qualify as a self-portrait, so there’s that. Not sure if you think it’s a good likeness, but if you ever find yourself this close to me, we would actually be kissing, and that could be rather awkward since we haven’t really met.

Eyes are a fabulous thing when you’re with someone you ought to be kissing, though. Well, wonderful and terrifying actually. The good thing and bad thing about eyes is their complete inability to lie. Mouths, of course, can be rather good at lying or simply hiding something by staying stubbornly shut. But, in the end, the mouth doesn’t matter, unless you’re actually kissing, because, for the observant, the eyes will tell you everything you really need to know. Now, whether you really want to know those things in another issue entirely, but if you’re on the hunt for truth, look no further than the person’s pair of eyes staring back at you. Surprisingly, this even works in a mirror.

The problem is, sometimes we don’t want to see the truth. In this moment, eyes can be a real pain in the ass and it’s best to simply stare at the mouth. If that proves awkward, then simply kiss it as a means of distraction. I’ve no idea the lesson in all of this, save to say that eyes are a real bitch. But when they’re looking at you in that certain way, that way that says, “I love you,” they’re quite possibly the most wonderful things in the world. That look that warms you all over and tells you that no matter what happens next, everything will be alright somehow. We all know what happens next, and that’s when the mouth finally joins in for that kiss. The other body parts come next, of course, but I’ll just leave all of that to your own vivid imagination.

  1. What great whimsical wisdom Charlie O! And your eye is beautiful!
I do have to say – and it may be because I am enjoying my glass of wine this evening, but it looks like a right eye with a left eye brow. I think I better quit looking trying to figure it out and just enjoy! 🙂 LOL! Beautiful!

  2. Great eye painting! The liquid quality you’ve achieved is fantastic. Is that a close approximation of your real eye colour? If so, I’m jealous. Confession: if I’d participated in this a challenge I probably would have drawn a bum.

  3. My body part is my mouth – not my favorite at all, as I don’t have the ability to smile so I always look glum. Unless I’m totally astonished, as by this post, and then my mouth tends to drop open making me look totally stupid.
And you, Mr. O’Shields, are about one eyebrow away from an “R” rating here. Hee hee hee.

  4. I really was fascinated by your eye…. I spent a long time deciding if it was a right or left eye or if the hair in the eyebrow was going in the right direction… and that’s when I kenw that you had me and my interest. Good job!

  5. Great philosophy to accompany your art, as usual, Charlie. When someone won’t look me in the eye, that’s an immediate red flag to me.
As to mouths lying…well just listen to the news. Actually don’t! We’ve had enough already!
Back to the eyes of love…(K)

  6. I did snigger a bit when I first saw this prompt, pondering what you might do and the delights that could potentially pop up on my Reader. I am, of course, referring to enormous eyes. 😉 Beautiful! They’re my favourite part of portraiture, a challenge but a joy. The window to the soul, and all that!

    1. Hehe…yeah…I try to keep this site PG-13 so the most might be a bum, but that’s not as interesting to paint. Lol Glad you liked this! I had several friends say it looks list like me so yay! I finally achieved a likeness! Now back to checking non-human things! 😊Lol

      1. Haha, I might have done a bum, were I forced into this. Probably not my own, though… 😮

I could tell it was you immediately. Perhaps it being Selfie Day dropped a hint, or perhaps it’s because I’ve tried drawing your eyes myself in the past! 😛
