Though I’ve doodlewashed some truly decadent desserts over the past few months, I’ve never painted my favorite. Yep, of all the wondrous sugary treats in the world, like a little boy, I still favor a vanilla soft-serve ice cream cone. Though I won’t turn down a hard ice cream version, of course. It’s really all about the cone itself. A crunchy, surprisingly tasteless little ice cream holder that serves as a hand-held edible bowl. As a kid, I thought this was brilliant and still marvel at the perfection of this deceptively simple invention as an adult. Of course, having one of these treats during the hot summer months is mostly a game of frantic licking in a race to avoid having the top melt uncerimoniously down your hand. But that is also part of the fun.

For those interested in playing along, we’ll be traveling through our favorite things this month and if you’d like to join in, just click here to learn more!  I selected the first of the 31 prompts, but still not sure if I’ll continue to follow these or start venturing off into parts unknown. I’m also not sure if I’ll be painting daily this month or take a break. I should probably consider one, since this is my 395th consecutive day of doodlewashing, but wonderful habits are as hard to break as bad ones, so I’ll probably just keep right on painting! It’s become part of my daily routine and something I’d miss if it were gone.

Right now, I’m just really missing ice cream cones and realize it’s been weeks since I’ve had one. I guess that’s why they call it a treat. Yet, I have wine much more regularly and it never fails to feel special. Though many of my tastes have changed, it’s fun to know that the same little ice cream cone that captivated me as a kid, still holds my heart as a somewhat grown up man. It’s interesting and challenging to determine what one might consider the favorite when thinking through a list of options. Perhaps, it’s never just one, but the one that comes to mind first is usually one that’s pretty special. In that moment in time, it’s the clear favorite, even if you can’t always remember exactly why.

  1. In fact, if I had my druthers, I’d have the cone filled with vanilla ice cream — leveled — a few of those instead of the piled high ice cream. It is the crunchy cheap old fashioned cones filled with the ice cream. Yum.

  2. Now look what you just made me do, Charlie – I grabbed a Drumstick ice cream cone out of the freezer – before dinner yet! And let me tell you – it was delicious!
Your soft serve cone is perfect – the swirly ice cream with its soft rolling peaks, the cake cone with its tufted texture, the shadows following the form of delectable goodness – a reminder of all things hot summer and cold treat. I’m hoping that all your 31 Favorites are not food or I will be in so much trouble, and my doctor will call you.
    Just saying…..

  3. Wow! 395th day ? I don’t think I’ve ever kept a new habit going for so long 😉 Congratulations Charlie , but then … you are having a whole lot of fun doing these doodlewashes and it shows 🙂

  4. Wonderful! We have a shop here called Dairy Queen and we get treats just like this one! When my dad was a boy he had a friend that works at the DQ and he would give him free cones all the time. 🙂

  5. Looks like a swirling treat of yumminess! 😃❤️🍦 I love the creamy chocolate soft serve ice cream in a cone… Oh, yeah! Thanks for the memory, Charlie! I can’t eat these anymore but oh, a girl can dream!! 😊 Lol! 😆💜🌈

  6. Oh yes! My whippy….or a 99’……with a big fat flake shoved in it, painted again so well, that I want to grab it off the page and give it a big lick, although I prefer a bigger one! And maybe two at once, double trouble……a full double cone, and can I please have two flakes ❤️ Naughty but nice!

  7. Amazingly done Charlie! The details done so exquisitely it almost looks like a photo. Don’t know how you do it but you continue to blow me away. And now I want a DQ! 😊

  8. Well, you’ve made me wish certain inclinations were different, so that means you did an especially awesome job! I can practically hear that pretty Greensleeves chime 😉

  9. A delicious looking painting, beautifully done and so life-like. Your painting was on my mind this morning while running errands so stopped at a drive-thru on the way home and got one of these refreshing treats, thinking the whole time about your painting. ;D

      1. You’re welcome! It’s almost unreal that you drew that! (In the best possible way). It just looks soo 😊. Please follow my blog if you dont mind🤗https://baking781.wordpress.com/. It would help a lot !!! 😀😀
