Though many who know me well would think I’d select wine for this entry, sparkling water would actually be at the top of my list. Thankfully, I can say that I drink much more of this beverage than wine. Truth be told, I just really like drinks with bubbles in them. There’s something about a bubbly drink that makes it a happier experience for me. It’s like it’s got real energy in it and isn’t just something flat and wet. A long time ago, I stopped drinking sodas because no human should ever have that much sugar at once and later diet sodas because they’re basically poison, so sparkling water is the primary way to quell my bubble cravings these days. Well, that, and the occasional champagne.

A couple Christmases ago, understanding my bubble obsession, Philippe got me a SodaStream. It’s a beautiful red cordless contraption that takes ordinary water and turns it into bubbly bliss. It came with various syrups to add to the water claiming to transform it into flavors that resembled store brand sodas. We tried them all and found them to be perfectly gross, so instead, we opted for a tiny trio of all-natural flavor essences of lemon, orange, and the unfortunate-tasting raspberry that we ended up throwing out.  The machine is super loud which makes it extra satisfying. The best part is when you release the bottle and it makes a sound like five bus doors opening at the same time.

Of course, as I rapidly type whatever is coming out here, those of you who know me can rest confident in the knowledge that I’m not drinking this at all in this moment. I’m drinking wine. It’s Friday night. I say that as though it implies some additional celebratory act, but I won’t be going out to dinner or dancing this evening as usual. I’ll be staying safe at home with a lovely Frenchman and a boisterous basenji, eating popcorn and watching whatever Netflix tells us we would like to see next.  It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s really the perfect night. Like adding some bubbles to a little water, sometimes it’s the simplest moments in life that end up sparkling.

  1. Charlie your glass is sensational and with those tiny little bubbles, oh so charming!! your Friday night, sounds perfectly wonderful to me. I think you’re absolutely right too, the simplest moments do end up sparkling! Enjoy 🙂

  2. I adore sparkling water and with fruit flavor, this is the first time I have heard of a SodaStream…..like what?!! maybe I need to get one…..Happy Friday to you and Philippe! enjoy your wine and hehe, your “boisterous basenji” lol does he manage a whine or two?

    1. What?!!! You haven’t heard of SodaStream?! It’s fabulous if you like bubbly water. But you have to near a shop that will exchange your CO2 canisters (like some Targets) And yes, the basenji whines when he doesn’t get his dinner promptly! Hope you had a wonderful Friday!! 😃💕

  3. Oh yes, this looks the perfect thing for such a muggy summer night as this. Sparkling all round and spot on the money, as always! I agree, yay for bubbly drinks, and indeed bubbles in general.

You drink more water than wine? Yeah, I believe you… 😉

  4. Ah! Now we know why you are soOoOo sparkling!!! 😉 Is all about the bubbles! <3 Well in my days in Italy yes sparkling water is a must especially with a slice of fresh lemon is very enjoyable. In Italy there are many great tasty spring waters also is possible to choose how much sparkling you like. Right now I stay healthy and without carbonated drinks since like you I don't drink any soda and any diet products! The only exception with bubbles is sometimes water or champagne when it happens! 😉 <3 I love your watercolor your glass painting is getting better and better! Enjoy your peaceful weekend! 🙂

  5. Charlie, you are so delightful! I agree that bubbles are the best, and I do love my champagne, proseco, lambrusco…. I laughed out loud – and startled my cats – at your description of the SodaStream. (Which I’ve never tried but now I want to go out and get.) Your Friday night sounds wonderful.

  6. Bubble bubble, toil and trouble…well, not quite the witches brew, but it could be as yours is a,healthy drink, one of my staples too! 🍶
That glass looks good enough to drink, charlie!
