Today we celebrate an amazing day dedicated to one of my favorite desserts! National Blueberry Pie Day is here, so it’s time to grab yourself a slice of that purply goodness. Unless you’re not a fan of blueberry pie, then wow, that’s just something I can’t get my head around, but I’m sure you can find something else to celebrate and we can still be friends. For the rest of us, it’s all about blueberries! Part of the popularity of the blueberry in the U.S. is that it’s one of the very few fruits native to North America. In other words, they’ve been around a really long time here.
Blueberries had been gathered for centuries by Native Americans long before the colonists arrived. Much folklore about the blueberry developed in tribes here and they were highly revered. Part of the fascination came from the fact that the blossom at the end of each berry, called the calyx, is in the shape of a perfect five-pointed star. Elders would gather the tribe and tell the story of the Great Spirit who sent “star berries” to save children from hunger during the times of famine. These magical berries were also used for medicinal purposes for everything from making the blood healthier to treating a cough.
As it turns out, the Native Americans were right about this amazing little berry. It does pack a powerful punch for health and is often referred to as a superfood. One the coolest things discovered in the past decade is that blueberry antioxidants may help enhance memory. So before you forget about this post entirely, be sure to grab a big handful of blueberries to eat. Then you’ll remember to add more of them into your diet. Finally, something delicious that’s actually good for you too!

YUM! Thanks for the memory info. Indeed, I need more of these.
You and me both! hehe… Thanks so much Jessica! 💕😃Glad you like this!
Oh wow, your pie is so inviting. I love blueberries too. Love them in my hot cereal.
Yum! On hot cereal is the best! We’ll have some in the morning with our pancakes! hehe… Thanks Sharon! 💕😃
Yummy! Looks good enough to eat! And I bet this piece of paper and paint has less calories. Lol! 😝
LOL… Yeah… definitely less calories, but also probably lacking all of the flavor! hehe… Thanks Jodi! 💕😃
Wonderful and juicy, Charlie! I can almost taste the deliciousness! Well done! <3
Thanks Laura!! Glad ya liked it! 💕😃Hehe… I love a good blueberry pie… or cobbler, or well… anything with blueberries really. I’m not picky!
I saw this one earlier on, and was very much hoping you’d rustle us a blueberry pie up – it looks as tempting as I expected. That filling – goodness… better than the real thing (well, almost!)
Haha… thanks Jacob! But nothing could compare to the real thing. Delicious!! I could eat several pieces…😊 But then I would weigh 20 stone so I guess I’ll resist the urge, but I could!! lol
Ohhh this looks delicious Charlie! I love blueberries they are so good for us thank you for the great post! I love it!
Thanks Carolina!! 💕😃Glad you liked this! Yeah… blueberries are just the best. Probably my favorite fruit!
Oh yes Charlie sure a favorite one for me too!
Reminds me of the delicious Blueberry pie we had when visiting Maine a couple of years ago, not to mention the blueberry cobbler, blueberry muffins, blueberry ice cream, and blueberry beer! Your painting looks good enough to eat!
So glad you liked my slice! hehe 💕😃I’ve never been to Maine!! But now I want to go more than ever!! I would probably faint with all the excitement of that many blueberry dishes though! 😊LOL
Yummy!! Of course it looks good enough to eat and savour. My mouth is watering. XX
Yay… then it worked! hehe… Thanks so much Susan! 💕😃Thrilled you liked it!
I love blueberries! We keep trying to grow them and they keep dying. And with the ones that live, we have to fight birds and chipmunks for the fruits. One year, we had a copperhead living at the base of a blueberry bush and I told everyone it was our pet guard snake. 😀
Your pie is making me starving! ❤️😋 I hope we get enough blueberries this year to make a pie.
Thanks Teresa! 💕😃Haha… love the pet guard snake line… cool! Though the snake itself would terrify me of course. Glad you know you’re a blueberry lover too! Hope this year you get to make that pie!! Yum!!
Fingers crossed for a good harvest! 😊
My stomach literally growled when I viewed your painting.
Excellent! That’s the best compliment ever for a food portrait! Thanks so much Laura!! 💕😃
Looks delish, Charlie! 💕💖 My hubby has blueberries every morning on his cereal but I don’t think they are helping his memory any… Lol! 😉 I grow them in my yard too. My favorite pie is huckleberry pie – similar to blueberries but more tart. We pick them in the mountains at the lake. My mom used to make the best huckleberry pie ever!! 😍
Thanks Jill!!💕 😃Too bad about the hubby’s memory though. lol too funny! And wow… you are totally making me want to try a huckleberry pie. I’m not sure I ever have. We used to always have gooseberry cobbler. I love tart desserts!
Delicious looking painting :-)! I will try to remember that blueberry pie and blueberry cobbler will improve my memory. Luckily, good things are easier to remember.
Thanks Myriam! 💕😃Yep! That’s the best part about blueberries… they’re actually tasty! I’m sure how many you’d have to eat to notice a huge difference in memory, but it’s fun to know blueberries pack such a good health punch!
Looks delicious, Charlie (and plenty of Selfie opportunities there, I must add! hehehe! 😉 )
Thanks Tom! 😃Lol… I actually thought about your blueberry selfie when I was doodlewashing this! That was awesome! hehe
Yummy, look at all those berries, oozing with the scrumptious juices, ready to be bitten into with a delicate but large open mouthed BITE, he he, great one Mr O.
hehe… thanks Rebecca!! 💕😃Glad you enjoyed it! The real thing is sooooo much better though. I love food too much… 😊😊lol
I love it!
