National Oatmeal Cookie Day & April Featured Doodlewashers

And so we reach the end of another doodlewash adventure, and what better way to celebrate than with some oatmeal cookies and milk! It’s also the end of my birthday month and it was an amazing one thanks to all of you talented doodlewashers out there. A special thanks to everyone who played along this month. Your doodlewashes were the best presents I ever could have received! If you’re dying to know who those awesome folks are, then feel free to skip my ramblings and go to the end of this post! By my count, 32 fabulous artists joined the adventure this month, but if I’ve left you out or botched a link, which is entirely possible, please just leave a note in the comments and I’ll be sure to add you in or fix it!

National Oatmeal Cookie Day is a great day to celebrate for me, because I absolutely love these cookies! As for their lineage, they are the long lost cousins of oat cakes made by the Scots and the British. Oat cakes first appeared when the Scottish started harvesting oats as far back as 1,000 B.C. History. With regards to the classic oatmeal raisin version, it’s unclear exactly how or when the raisins got in there. The first recorded oatmeal raisin cookie was by Fannie Merritt Farmer in 1896 and since it was billed as a “health” food it became instantly popular. By the early 1900’s, the recipe for these yummy cookies appeared on every package of Quaker Oats.

That’s really all I know about oatmeal cookies so I’ll keep this short and sweet today. I’m just so happy to have had such an incredible birthday month to enjoy with my doodlewash friends. Thanks to all of you for making this month special. Doodlewash is all about community and it’s been so wonderful to see all the fabulous interpretations of the various days that each of you posted. If you missed this month or still want to play along, well, good news! From now on, I’ll provide a hashtag for each month’s theme if you feel like joining me at some point or all along the way! I’ll reveal May’s adventure tomorrow once it reveals itself to me. Yep, no clue what it will be yet, but this way, we can all be surprised together!

  1. Charlie, I am so glad we had this month to share common doodlewashes, and I might have to paint some May national holidays because it will make me paint things I would not have painted otherwise. Thanks for inspiring us all, and I am glad you had a good birthday month. Happy birthday and happy Doodlewashing! 🎈🎂🍨🍺

  2. Thank you Charlie this was an amazing month to play along and celebrate you birthday! It was fun and a great way to get a beautiful community of artists play along together and get to know each other! I am so happy I joined thank you for including my name in your precious list! It will be fun next month I am looking forward and wondering about what next adventure would be! 😉 <3 btw your oatmeal coockies are gorgeous! Lovely colors and trasparency in the glass, nice shadow and the cookie looks real! Beautiful! <3

  3. Thank you Charlie for all of the shout outs. I love oatmeal cookies too, and Quaker Oats had a great marketing tool. Your doodlewash is scrumptious and the glass of cold milk “the pièce de résistance”

        1. Aww thanks!! (Ps…I even had to edit my comment as it came through with an extra word. I swear it’s autocorrect and not the wine! 😊lol) You are an inspiration as well! It’s been so rewarding to be part of a community of people who push each other to keep on painting!!

  4. Your so fun Charlie! I’m glad that you had a fabulous birthday month and so many people painted along with you 🙂 – totally awesome!! 😉

  5. I’m so glad I found your site, Charlie, (you can thank Curious to the MAX) because not only are you a talented artist and a generous person, but everyone who follows you is wonderful as well. I’ve had a lot of fun stopping by here almost every day and seeing all the art.
Only one problem: I tried to scratch and sniff the oatmeal cookie – nothing happened. Guess I’ll have to run out and buy some cookies. (Please do not suggest baking cookies. My kitchen is just for storage.)

    1. Awww thanks Sharon!! I’ve been so thrilled that you’ve been coming by to comment! Love it!! 💕😃 And wow…doodlewash scratch and sniff would be an excellent book idea! I should make that!! Hehe And I would never suggest baking…I can’t even cook an egg appropriately. 😊lol

  6. Hubby loves oatmeal cookies but they don’t have enough chocolate or cream cheese for me. 😜 As for raisins, it’s like that funny meme I saw at FB says, raisins that look like chocolate chips in cookies are why I have trust issues. Hahaha! However scrumptious your doodlewash is, I will have to pass on them and go for one of my other favorite cookies (and I have many, though none have raisins). 😆

Thanks for hosting a fun challenge, dear, and including me in your list! ❤️

  7. Reblogged this on YesterdayAfter and commented:
A great thank you to Charlie at Doodlewash for the awesome celebration of the month April, that inspired me to create and post almost every day one of my watercolors doodlewashes celebrating the National Days! I am honored to be featured and be part of an amazing group of 32 Artists! Later on today I will post my last doodlewash for this month! I can tell you that it will bring you a smile! 😉

  8. Ah, cookies and milk is a fun way to end the month! 😃 I prefer oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips myself. 🍪💕 But your doodlewash makes me hungry! Lol! 😍 I enjoyed playing along with your challenge for this month, Charlie. It made me break out the watercolors again which is always a good thing. 😃🎨👍 I really enjoyed all your stories with your art and seeing what others created too! Thanks for including me in your list. You are AWESOME, Charlie!! 😃🌈💕

  9. Nice cookies, Charlie! Thanks for the mention, by the way. My watercolour is more a smudge – or needs to be smudged – but it’s a start, so it’s all good! Thanks for the inspiration.

  10. What a fantastic month, I am so sorry I could not join in more. I ate an oat cake instead, lol. I have really enjoyed having introductions to new bloggers…I see some I did not check out, so will scan your list better tonight. Thank you charlie😀

  11. I could definitely go for some milk and cookies right now, but then again, when could I not? They look so impossibly tasty – perfectly crumbly texture. Mmm!

And it’s marvellous to see so many played along this month – lots to explore! You see, ‘army of fans’ wasn’t an exaggeration after all! 😉

    1. Thanks Jacob! And Haha!! That last bit was an “I told you so” wasn’t it? It was a wonderful turn out! And so fun to see everyone’s takes on the different days. Made for an amazing birthday month! Hehe…and I really can’t thank you enough for the Zonkey!! 😍
