Written by Today’s prompt of “climax” really stumped me as I wasn’t sure at all what to create for it. Most of the suggestions you get by googling the word bring up people caught in a euphoric state of sexual pleasure. That, obviously, wasn’t an option since I don’t draw people. I was lost, which made me think of being “on the rocks,” which in turn, made me think of a glass of whiskey. Yeah, that’s pretty much what happened today. But if one makes it all the way to Day 30 on these challenges, then I think any sort of reward is in order. Though I always paint daily, I’m sort of excited to get on to the new challenge in April, but there’s still one more day of March to go! I’m actually not drinking a whiskey as I type this as it’s far too strong, but I am enjoying a glass of wine. There just wasn’t ice in the wine and so this was more fun to paint. This is my 10th beverage of the month, so if nothing else, I guess we can say that March has made me rather thirsty. Okay, yeah, I’m really just addicted to painting glass, but as addictions go, this one is far healthier than others.
One of the things I’ve discovered in doing these painting challenges, is that you always have to paint what you love. Some days, I’m not as fond of the subject that I choose and find myself rushing through it. Other days, I’m sort of lost and happy in my chosen subject matter and nearly lose track of the time. Those days are the most fun, although they are also the days when the dog is staring at me angrily wondering why the hell I’m not paying attention to him. Like now. So, I should probably tend to him as he’s taken to nipping at my ankles in an effort to fully illustrate his displeasure. But on thinking about things further, since this is my 635th day of daily painting, that’s rather a climax after all. I’m actually quite happy about that as, if nothing else, I’ve proven it’s possible to paint daily no matter what. Today was crazy busy and I’m rushing to complete this post, but all I had to do to make it happen was save a little time for the thing I truly love to do.
That’s what I’ve learned on this journey. If art really matters in your life, then you simply demand a little time for it each day. It doesn’t take much time to make something. Even if it’s no masterpiece it’s always a step forward and helps you improve more quickly. I haven’t even been painting for 2 years yet and I’ve still grown a bit more confident in my daily little sketches. It feels great! It’s fun to go back and look at my earliest sketches and see all the little improvements here and there. And I really like that you can do the same, if you’re so inclined. It all started with this little tree. The first time in my life that I used watercolor and the first post of this blog. We all start somewhere, but the trick is to just stick with it and refuse to give up. Like my dog Phineas, who has told me that it’s now time to wrap this up and focus on him instead. Here’s to painting a little each and every day, and always moving forward no matter what! Even when you find yourself on the rocks.

I am amazed that you sketch and post every single day Charlie. I paint perhaps 5-6 days out of the week and I am lucky if I post 2 or 3 times a week. No way I could do what you do! And yes, you are good at painting glass! Ever think of doing a little tutorial on your approach?

I’ve not yet fully deconstructed my process to make a tutorial. I’m amazed and impressed by people who can do that. One day, perhaps, I’ll figure it out! 😊

Your first two sentences nearly had me falling off my chair laughing – you can’t paint anything sexual because you don’t paint people, and then you blame poor Phineas for your problems. Hilarious! Only you can pull off a comment like that. Your glass of whiskey is great – you do paint glass very well. And it fits with a G-rated blog – sort of.
