Angela Fehr is a World Watercolor Month Artist Ambassador, which means along with our other Artist Ambassadors, she’s donating a portion of proceeds all month long in July to The Dreaming Zebra Foundation. She’s actually done this every single year since World Watercolor Month was founded two years ago! A huge Doodlewash thanks to Angela for her constant enthusiasm and support of our global charitable celebration to raise money and spread awareness for arts education!
Hi, I’m Angela Fehr. As a watercolour instructor, I think the very best way for me to celebrate World Watercolor Month, and all the wonderful things watercolor has given in my life, is in the spirit of generosity, and so all through July I’ll be here on the Doodlewash blog, sharing weekly watercolor lessons.
Today I’m giving you a look at my interpretation of the upcoming July 6th official prompt, “Simple Things.” As a self-taught artist, long ago I learned that when I simplify, my paintings improve, and so I want to share a look at one way I paint “simple things” today with this example of how to paint simple landscapes in watercolor.
Remember that whenever we are painting, we are creating symbols that represent the objects we want to depict, and these symbols can be as loose or as detailed as your own individual style. You decide! When you simplify, you benefit by getting to the “bones” or foundation of your scene, and really figuring out what gives it visual appeal to connect with your viewer.
If you found this video lesson useful, you’ll want to head over to watercolorsummerchallenge.com, where I’ve shared a companion lesson that explores this topic in more depth, as well as providing opportunities for you to win watercolor prizes provided by this week’s prize sponsors QoR Watercolors and Hahnemühle. (both Official World Watercolor Month Sponsors!).
Enroll in “Sun, Snow, Flowers” and paint along with me as I create 3 beautiful watercolor paintings. 10% from each course sale goes to World Watercolor Month charitable partner, The Dreaming Zebra Foundation.
All other course sales at learn.angelafehr.com this month will earn a $1 donation to Dreaming Zebra.
