Tried a another quick little doodlewash of the Paris Metro. Started by using my ink pen with some gray washes and sort of preferred it in black and white, but decided I really wanted to try making the brass horn look like brass. It seems like every scene I try has some new material or texture that I’ve never painted before. Guess that’s going to happen a lot since I’m just starting out, and I enjoy each little challenge!
There’s always a lot of entertainment on the Paris Metro, whether you like it or not. I’m not a big fan of the accordion players as it’s both a bit cliché and insanely loud in such a confined space. Actually, a horn is pretty darn loud as well, now that I think of it, but this guy was quite good and managed to hold back from blasting us all out of the train and onto the tracks. I didn’t have any change to tip him, but he was the first train musician I would have considered supporting.

I really like it, Charlie! Nice shine on the horn too! Did you do this from a photo?
Yes, unfortunately! Wish I were back there! Used a photo I took on the metro for reference. And thanks!! Tried to shine it up…wasn’t sure what I was doing! 🙂
Part of the fun!! 👏👍
Love your sketching progressions and beautiful renderings. This one has a nice feel to it, can almost hear the music. Brilliantly done.
Thank you so much Haunani! What a wonderful thing to say! I really appreciate that! 🙂
That is a great image. I really like it. I can almost hear the horn playing.
Thanks Kirk! I wasn’t sure about this one… glad you think it works! 🙂
Great work Charlie. I really like the hints of color throughout.
Thanks so much Wayne! Appreciate that. The reference was really monochromatic so I had to look hard for the color in the shadows. 😉
