When I sat down to make a quick little doodlewash this evening, the prompt of peas proved a little daunting. I wasn’t quite sure how to make them seem interesting, so I opted for a bit of dramatic lighting. Not sure if it worked, but it was fun to play around. I actually really like peas. They’ve been one of my favorites since I was a kid. Back then they were canned and mushy, but today, I like them with a little spring in their step and not wrinkled like a raisin. That said, I still have fond memories of the green beans my grandmother used to make. They were cooked in oil until well and truly dead and were perfectly delicious. Though my tastes may change as I get older, the tastes of my childhood always bring back wonderful memories. Mostly because of the people who surrounded me at the time. People I loved, many who are gone now, and who loved me back. Always a guaranteed recipe for happiness.

A quick little update for those of you who participate in the Doodlewash Club community. The plugin for uploading images to the gallery mysteriously stopped working correctly on WordPress.com and their developers are currently meeting to get back to me with a verdict. Rest assured, I’ll find a solution, but with holiday schedules, it makes getting feedback tough. I’ve been busy coming up with a back up plan, just in case, so all will be working again eventually, but may take another week or so to sort out. Thanks so much for your patience (And please, instead use the little image icon in the trio of icons, below and to the far left of the post box to share your work in the meantime!). On the bright side, I’m learning more about programming than I ever thought possible! I still know just enough to be dangerous, but at least I can take comfort in knowing the current issues are no fault of my own.

Last night, as we closed our long weekend, Philippe took a moment play our piano. Something he hasn’t done in quite some time. Though it was a rocky start at first, soon things shifted from simple warm ups to complex melodies that I remember hearing when we first met. Suddenly, the house was filled with beautiful music and memories, and I had to pause to consider it all. I was doing dishes at the time, and even that suddenly failed to feel like a chore. We were just living in the moment, enjoying simplicity and the beauty that comes from knowing you’re perfectly matched. Whenever life presents problems, I always return to moments like these. Those inexplicable ones that create a sort of magic. No matter what conflicts are swirling around you, it’s a moment that somehow makes everything feel just right. And while you still have mountains to climb and things to sort out, in that precise minute, you can simply enoy being peas in a pod.

  1. Your dramatic lighting definitely worked! It sounds like you’ve lucked out finding a significant someone who cooks and is musical and artistically talented. And from what I can see of you in the Doodlewash community and World Watercolor Group, it something you well deserve!

  2. Not a huge fan of peas, unless they’re in pot pie, but I love those moments. My husband and I are a good example of opposites attract, and even better, balance. He’s outgoing, and dreams up things we could do and keeps the both of us properly socialized, whereas I’m very organized and love to make sure we have a quiet, relaxing home life to retreat to when we’re ready to relax.

  3. OOH, peas are my very favorite, especially on the holidays. I make mushy peas as a dip, one gargantuan bag of frozen peas, just enough water to cover them. Add at least half a dozen fresh garlic cloves (I love more, more MORE)hehehe. Boil for a few minutes until you know they’re piping hot. Drain thoroughly. Add butter generously along with a HUGE amount of freshly ground pepper. Salt to taste. Now get out the immersion blender and blend those suckers until nice and mushy, don’t leave any garlic cloves from being mushed, lol. Taste, adjust seasoning, you can also add fresh mint if you want. Decant into containers, freeze i you want. To make a dip, use good Mayo like Hellmann’s, mix in a little or a lot depending on whether you like mayo. On the other hand, you can just heat them up and use them as a side dish veggie. OR you can buy some good garlic hummus and mix mushy peas and hummus half and half together. The sweetness of the peas pairs beautifully with the chickpeas and lemon. YUMM. Serve with crudités or sweet potato chips (Food Should Taste Good brand is awesome and organic!) Your peas make me wish Christmas eve would HURRY UP!
