Episode #3: Childhood Favorites
Sketching Stuff

00:00 / 00:19:59

For this episode I felt like sharing some of my favorite bits of childhood. Those little things that made me smile when I was a much shorter person. I grew up during a time when the world was changing a bit more slowly, and every new thing was so fascinating. Today, we’re not quite as easily impressed by new things. We tend to shrug and ask, “yeah… what else can it do?” But back then… nearly every new thing felt like an innovation and a wonder to behold. So join me now as we head back to those days when everything was fascinating and awesome. Though much has changed in life since those days, it’s difficult to avoid smiling when thinking back to those childhood favorites.

Aww thanks, Sandra! 😃💕This is the only type of narration I think I can do well… rambling… hehe… I’m happy to leave the tutorials to the masters! 😉

oooooooo ugh – now that image you drew of that horrible little Oompa-Loompas with the horrible hair and horrible socks is burned into MY brain and I’ll be afraid to go to bed tonights for fear he’s under my bed.

    Cheers Charlie!

Charlie, you are a great story teller! I enjoyed your memories which reminded me of those simpler times such as enjoying a barrel of monkeys. Thanks for the historical context too.

Just listened to this one and had to comment on the lawn darts and troll dolls. When my cousin was born, way back in the 70’s, everyone got together for a visit. My younger sister had received a troll doll for christmas and absolutely loved it. So when she first laid eyes on her new cousin she said the first loving thing that came into her mind, that the babe looked just like her troll doll. This did not go over well with my aunt who was very insulted as she thought the trolls were gruesome. Big misunderstanding!
We also had lawn darts. We kids had our own game after the adults got bored (or too tipsy, or just weren’t around). Playing lawn darts by the rules was boring but throwing them straight into the air and seeing how close to you they would land as they hurtled down was hugely exciting! Thankfully no one was impaled and I think it made us better fielders on the baseball diamond.

Thanks, Robert!! I adore that story of the troll dolls! LOL That’s so awesome… kids are wonderful like that. Always saying whatever comes to mind. And wow on the lawn darts… that sounds terrifying!! Yet… now that I think about it, I remember some of my cousins doing the very same thing. It’s really a wonder any of us survived at all, but it was SO much fun! Thrilled you enjoyed this episode my friend. Thanks so much for commenting!

Oops, I typoed. It was in the 60’s not the 70’s. That’s just one of the things age does to ya!
